So i been gone since before TBC, i recently came back and see this GDKP crap constantly spammed everywhere so bad in fact i just started ignoring anyone who post in LFG channel, i know it has something to do with paying people gold to run you threw a dungeon, which i don’t agree with, you join a good lvling guild, like the one im currently in and its easy to form a group to run threw a dungeon, but my question is what exactly does GDKP mean and why is so many people falling for this scam?
And now im seeing the term RDF being used alot what does that mean? i know it has something to do with looking for dungeon group.
GDKP goes like this:
Raid leader makes the group and fills it with quite a few players who already have best in slot gear or close to it.
They then leave open a few spots for people who are undergeared but also have a lot of gold.
They proceed to clear the raid and bid off any gear that drops.
At the end of the raid, the people who were there to pump dps/heals are paid by dividing up the gold the raid leader made from selling the gear to the bidders - a cut for the raid leader.
The people who were there to buy don’t get a cut of the gold even if they did “okay” dps. So don’t join one expecting to make gold unless you get the raid leader to confirm that you’ll get a cut.
That about sums it up for gdkp.
So for RDF, that stands for “random dungeon finder” and it’s been quite a hot button topic lately.
Blizzard plans to not include it in wrath this time around because they said it hurts the social fabric of communities or some Bs like that.
The community seems to be torn on this topic. A lot want it and a lot don’t.
I’ve always got a cut, whether I bought or not.
I’ve never gotten a cut if I was undergeared.
just depends on the raid leader.
Yeah, I always ask these days. I don’t go if I don’t get a cut. It doesn’t have to be a full cut but I’d hate to just be wasting my time completely
Even if I’m only doing 50% of what the others are doing, shouldn’t that mean I get At least half of what they get?
Im pretty sure the norm is you will get a cut unless the RL specifically said you are undergeared and wont be getting a cut. I join GDKP all the time without asking whether I get a cut and I have always gotten a cut. There are also times where pure buyers ended up performing well and gotten a cut in the end.
But yea all these threads seems to be made by same person under different alts anyway.
Welcome back to a version of wow that is similar to what you left…grab a cope-a-cola and make yourself at home.
ya but i see em spamming for it for non raid dungeons all the time, like slave pens, under bog…etc
First off.
I have a major issue with your thread starting by clearly acknowledging you don’t know anything about GDKPs but then immediately calling them a “scam” and putting everyone in LFG on Ignore. Then telling others what is “the better system” such as your leveling guild for dungeons, which doesn’t apply at all to the GDKP raids being run.
An awful lot of opinions for someone who has no clue what they are talking about and asking for assistance on.
Anyways, Gdkps are absolutely not a scam. They are by far the most fair loot system for a pug in the game. They incentivize people to play the entire raid out to finish, to press their buttons really hard, and they help under geared / players without a guild to have a chance to get loot by farming out in the world.
Peoples biggest issue with GDKPs is that people often use illegally purchased gold to buy gear with. However, you can still GDKP just fine with legal gold. Just takes a bit of farming is all.
GDKP is the cancer that’s currently ravaging the retail progression servers.
Its only a cancer if you dont understand how they work…
It’s a method for deciding who gets the loot.
Loot is awarded by bidding gold, instead of other methods such as DKP, Soft Reserve, or just plain /roll.
At the end, the entire gold pot is divided equally among the entire raid, possibly with additional shares given to the organizers. (Personally I have never seen a GDKP raid where low performers do not get a share of the gold.)
GDKP can be a moneymaker for geared people who otherwise would have no reason to attend such a raid. And you want a fair number of these people along, to ensure the raid is successful.
GDKP does have somewhat of a bad reputation for encouraging people to purchase gold with real money.
