Been 70 for a day and Mage feels weak compared to other classes

Hit 70 last night and yes I know its just the start to end game, I leveled as fire and felt like my amge was so under powered compared to all the other classes around me killing stuff so much faster. Just felt like the mage was not that good.

Leveling my mage now (lvl 69) it is my main character and only character I have leveled so far, but HOLY Shiz I feel so weak. I literally have to barrier every fight or id die, I have gone through so many health pots. Like I just can’t pump enough damage out to kill mobs. I have tried every spec and they are all feeling the same, so I that makes me feel like it’s truly a class issue.

Fire isn’t tuned the best atm. Arcane is blasting though!

One I hit 70 and finished up azure spam and moved onto theldrassus I had to switch to frost. Arcane just didn’t cut it anymore outside of cooldowns, I could one v one fine but it was slow. I switched to frost and made a glacial spike spec and was able to pull 5-6 mobs at once with blizzard frozen orb and the chance to freeze on chill, extra charge on frost nova and cone of cold root. Barely ever got hit and plowed down groups even in questing greens. Glacial spike shatter takes away 90% of most mobs health

I highly recommend frost for leveling and world quests until you start getting geared. It takes effort to play, knowing how to shatter and effective use of shimmer but it can be just as fast as other classes at aoe roflstomping if you practice

I think its finally good but ill take buffs. I switched to my dk in mop and finally back to mage

There hasn’t been much tuning to Mage for some reason but pretty much every caster but Demonology feels very lackluster when it comes to damage at the moment. It just sucks that Mage is the only one without heals or a pet to tank for them.

If anything, I’d really like a buff to our damage, especially Frost and Fire.

On my mage, I was having to eat after single pulls during leveling.
And then I’d watch a demon hunter, dk, shaman, monk, or evoker come in, pull 7 mobs, and come out at 100% health still.

Questing is just that way in general. A lot of people seem to forget that at the start of every expansion. Melee has everything instant cast so it’s much faster for them to burst down low health mobs by clicking buttons for 3 GCDs with 0 cast time. I’ll be interested to see M+ damage rankings. I opted to play Rogue because I hate Arcane, plus Fire felt insanely weak in the pre-patch event. The spec feels fine to play but the numbers need some tweaking imo.

The difference is quite stark at the moment. I’ve been working my butt off to kill a group of enemies together throwing all kinds of CC, [Ring of Fire] and [Frost Bomb] with Warmode On, kiting and everything and I can’t let melee mobs get to me or I die quite fast. Meanwhile a Monk pushes [Strike of the Wind Lord] or a Demon Hunter with [Eye Beam] can down a pack double that size in a quarter of the time it took me and lose almost no health at all.

And it isn’t only questing that melee have been outperforming casters in general, and by a substantial margin at that with the exception of Demonology. That was also the case in both M+ dungeons and raids on Beta up until the expansion launched.

Like I said, tuning hasn’t happened yet and it’ll probably come in a few weeks but it still sucks that we feel so week in comparison.

I’m envious.

I tried to AOE down a small group of 4 non-elite mobs on my 350 Evoker last night.

My health went from full to dead in less than a second. I didn’t even get the screen flash telling me my health was low. I just keeled over dead.

I agree and with mage having no heals or tank pet it makes you wonder what kind of beta tests mage got.

It definitely sucks when you work your keyboard to death to kill a pack and you see a melee come in and do the same in a couple globals. Oh and they come out a full heath and on the the next mob.

Not sure why bliz done this

I am very ok while questing. No death. But in dungeons some classes (64-66) deal 40-50k dps and my fire is almost no damage. I will check if the talent tree got updates

Why want a tank pet, you realize if they gave us tank pets we would just lose some of our kiting kit, like we wouldnt need all these blastwaves\nova\ring etc if we had a tanking pet. I hate pets i would prefer to have impactful spells.

People that want pets can play wheelchair warlocks, and ill enjoy mage running and casting and blinking and alter timing.

If you want more damage Play arcane or frost. Fire is getting buffs soon but at the moment its not fantastic.

Frost is the more consistent, better aoe, easy to get off damage compared to arcane so many start there.

Don’t want one either just pointing out that even classes with tank pets do more damage. Could have chosen my words a little better

It really is jarring going from doing 40% of the group’s damage in WotLK classic dungeons to doing near negligible damage in Dragonflight.

Not liking the feel of the class or the talent trees either. Thinking maybe I’ll just play through the campaign story and then try an Evoker.

The damage does need some adjustment as others noted. But the other issue is… it almost feels like blizz was trying to return mage (and maybe casters in general) to the old caster playstyle of actually having to cast, strategically plan, and have some proactive thought put into it to gain a very significant reward. Which is actually not a bad thing but at the same time you realize no other classes are playing with this playstyle and most can mongo out high dps before mage ever reaches its potential. And even if you manage to do so, the reward is not as significant.

On less productive feedback I’d like to add, all last tier talents are one dimensional and heavily raid oriented, living bomb is tuned for lvl 40, frost talent tree is conflicted with itself, can frost have frost bomb back, why is frostbolt such a long cast?, is there a purpose to scorch, can we not have to spend points to reduce the cd of iceblock to normal cd and also that weird blink sprint talent that’s just taking up space too.

Have you tried then all at level 70? My balance druid feels like it’s underpowered if it pulls more than 1 monster at a time. I often die.
