Yeah, this has been my experience as well. It isn’t a fight to play fast and loose with skimping on EH gear to be sure unless you’re really avid about keeping the boss debuffed, tell the Warlocks to knock off CoR, or get a Hunter to maintain Screech.
Oh well. The drakes die fast enough and aren’t really much of a hiccup, and I don’t remember AQ presenting any similar mechanics, but to be fair it has been a long time.
Close, you forgot that LotP and Pred strikes can not always turn back on when you powershift for some reason (probably due to the timing/processing server thingy) Those two talents are considered auras and will not always turn back on when you power shift. I’m uncertain if blizzard actually fixed this yet but its totally easily solved via 2 lines
A proper powershift/using item macro would be
#showtooltip xx Form
/cancelaura Leader of the Pack;
/cancelaura Predatory Strikes(Rank 3);
/cancelform
/use the thing
/cast xx Form
What this does is drops the talent buffs that i know don’t come back on a standard powershift and allows them to always come back when you do so. I am not 100% sure if sharpened claws functions the same as lotp and pred strikes.
Keeping things in reserve doesn’t seem to be the way people play these days. I figure at least some of them would have blown their innervate if it could have contributed at all to killing the boss 3s faster, but it couldn’t because it was entirely unneeded.
If you have a mana-dependent tank who could be putting out more TPS with more mana, then it could.
Anyway time for me to take a forum break lol. Starting to feel self conscious about not being able to raid and going off 15 year old memories.
I honestly can’t fathom why this would be the case lol. I’m actually going to try solo tanking Broodlord tonight with shear overwhelming threat gen lol. I’ll post the logs here tonight afterwards.
Basically, your threat gen will come down to gear. How geared are your Bears? Are they using Hit gear? Also, are they dumping excess Rage on Swipe? Other than that, they just need to Maul harder I guess lol.
Bear tanking is the simplest thing in the world so we can scratch off rotation.
That leaves spec or gear. I’m guessing bad gear choices. A bear shouldn’t be having threat issues unless the warrior really outgears him and is specifically going for threat (e.g. he has a thunderfury, etc)
Well, actually your melee could do nearly 1.5k with that threat and your warlocks could do nearly 1.4k. Rogues/feral and warrior have a built in 20% threat reduction + BoS + 10% melee range hurdle. Warlocks have a 30% ranged hurdle + BoS. So the melee ceiling is 1.964x and ranged is 1.857x. Mages get an even further 30% innately so theirs is 2.653x
This is also why arguing about max threat on alliance is stupid. So what if a warrior or bear can theoretically get 2k threat. It’s not like you will roll ignites for 10k ticks the whole fight.
The jump from 5-8 reduces your glancing blow penalty from 15% to a minimum of 5%. All white damage can still glance, which is still a non-insignificant portion of your damage. Obv on Vael, alcors/TF is used, not maladath.
I looked at your guilds parses. On your last ebonroc, your main tank white autoed 64 times and heroic striked 9. He had ACLG, so his glancing penalty was 15% at 305 daggers. If he was dual wielding, the offhand can still glance, and offhand damage is not insignificant.
On Chromag, he logged 89 white melee hits and 76 heroic strikes.
Warcraft Logs says you’re wrong. All Tanks get smashed for the same reasons:
Poor gear
Poor consumable/buff/debuff management
Poor play
A Warrior isn’t magically sturdier than a Bear when both lack Demoralizing Shout on a Boss with Curse of Recklessness up. Those mechanics are a massive change in how much damage you take as a Tank.
Looking at his gear it needed major work. It didn’t look like he was gear swapping depending on the fight either. He’s still missing a ton of preraid-bis and MC pieces too. He needs HoJ, Ony Neck, other hit pieces like mask of the unforgiven. He also needs slaghide gauntlets of the monkey, bone ring helm, malefic bracers, ring of protection (from a quest), heavy dark iron ring, and band of accuria.
There are also a lot of crafted pieces he could do with having like devilsaur, and the FR helm/boots, the enchanting trinket, the two new crafted belts from P3, Breastplate of bloodthirst (may as well wait until Malfurion’s Bulwark now). These are all just for tanking. He also needs a lot more things for cat dps for when he’s not tanking and a couple other BoE items for a FR set for bear.
Also doesn’t look like he’s farming pummelers but he needs those too. And if he wants to min/max then also the Exalted WSG bracers and R12/13 armor would be excellent. He could also potentially also use R10 helm/shoulders for threat.
