Bear Damage profile

Bear damage profile looks bad. Don’t get me wrong, I’m having fun, I enjoy the Apex and the Spirit Bears. I like the rotation.

But our damage is like 45% Thrash, 25% Moonfire, 7% Lunar Beam, and 23% EVERYTHING ELSE (which includes Mangle). I think that looks bad. I love the easy threat we get from a powerful Thrash. I guess I just wish maybe it could be just 35% of our damage and maybe Mangle could be 20% and Moonfire only 15%.

Or am I thinking about something that really shouldn’t matter?

You’re overthinking it.

that is how they built us.

unless you are pushing the highest keys, I think there is plenty of room for running raze in elunes. you generate enough rage to keep up ironfur and do some extra aoe with raze.

Yeah… probably. Thanks.

I tried it. But overall I think I just wasn’t quite efficient enough at it where I was making more mistakes. So in the end, my damage without running Raze was actually a little better. Obviously it’s a skill issue, so I could just keep practicing the Raze build… but I’m old, I’m not trying to min max or anything, and I’m content with getting my +10s and +12s. :man_shrugging:

Can confirm, am Elunes and Raze is def in my rotation.

There are a number of reasons why it is unprofitable to raze.

  1. This requires GCD.
  2. The damage of raze is low.
  3. To take raze, you will have to reduce your survivability, and to take a killing blow, you will have to either greatly reduce your survivability or greatly reduce your DPS.

So it turns out that with a raze the game becomes more difficult, and the DPS is no higher, and more dangerous. some minuses and zero pluses.

i think one of the greatest strengths of bear is that it doesn’t have the sort of mini-game that other tanks have. i think when you look at the design of tanks, its just different ways of attaining the same goal/standard and bear is designed to just be the big meat shield that presses the thrash button. versatile, not very punishing, simplistic, and i wouldn’t really want it any other way; i’m tired of playing 10x harder than someone for marginal, the same or less of a result.

some people will argue that there is minmaxing to bear, sure if you really want that, but you can perform at the highest level without doing that; look at squishvegan world first 20 den, he pressed maul 15 times, meaning that he put almost every ounce of his rage into ironfur for 30mins- more or less he could’ve just macro’d it in and there would’ve been no difference at the highest level. bear is designed to do high level content with relative ease and i hope they do not add some minigame or clearing stagger or maintaining ignore pain / block rotation just because some people want maul or something to have more “value” ie lines on a chart.

And how is this easier than playing other tanks?

Thrash bear is the only bear that has ever been good. They for some reason can’t tune it outside of that. I don’t know why they can’t give us baseline free raze procs or something and massively buff it’s damage.

Why? How much damage are you even getting from it, like 4k DPS?

I wish DotC made catweaving worth it. Ran it for a bit for the memes and it could really add so much. But I didn’t find the extra effort worth the reward I got. Ill still run it for memes though.

Mangle needs a buff. My ST was 65k last season, now on a double incarn boss it’s like 72k if I’m lucky. seems like a pretty lame increase for 20 ilvls.

Most tanks at this point have their AOE button be their highest damage ability. In M+, this is really not a huge issue. The easiest solution that would make me happy (and I assume at least SOME of the rest of the bear populace happy), is to buff up DotC to be a stronger ST tank that we can use for raids.

If I could swap to DotC for raiding and really get to feel chunky Mangles, big Ravages, and NOT feel like my ST was largely based around Red Moon (which I personally dislike since it feels like a greedy dps talent that makes me less effective as a tank), then I would have no problem being a Thrash spamming EC bear in keys.
