Bdk question

So I’m looking for a new tank to main. While Prot war is the meta it seems, i was wondering how bdk is doing this xpac. How’s it looking in ptr?

Some say bdk is where its at. Others say our spec is dumpster tier. You going to have to play and decide on your own.

I personally like bdk over pally. Even though they have basically same setup, a draenei dk is going to have that extra heal and if you have them rock engineering, extra ooc rez.

Or you could rock a ne dk. Use the nelf passive to drop aggro whenever needed.

Or Maybe even human dk for dropping c.i.e. with passive.

Or whatever horde equivalents are. Honestly, just play what you want, you pretty much going to get spun right-round listening to bulk of forum posters

its fun to out heal your healers in mythic plus.

Blood has it’s strengths and weaknesses. It’s pretty polarizing

Pros

Best self healing of all tanks
High utility kit especially in dungeons
Fairly easy to play
Best magic defenses off all tanks

Cons

Low dps
terrible movement
Lacks mitigation/erratic damage intake (only an issue in higher end content)

BDK feels good to play, the rotation and situational awareness needed (when to refresh bone shield, death strike, etc) is pretty easy to manage. Grip, AMS and self healing are great tools.

With that said, it’s getting harder and harder to get into runs. Everyone wants a Prot War or Pally and I mean it’s understandable. They’re tankier and have better dps/utility than we do.

BDK is still a decent tank to play. It’s only because of this Seasonal Reaping Affix that those other tanks are in the spotlight right now. The AoE damage from both Prots is very good at dealing with the Reaping packs.

Blood DK still brings the best dungeon utility of all tanks in my opinion. Gorefiend’s Grasp and Death Grip are amazing. The power to position mobs is invaluable.

I’ve yet to have any tank out-heal me in a gear-appropriate key.

Probably the rarest of feats. Should get a FoS. Not that i apparently have any room to talk since I’ve stayed tf out of m+ lol

Lol

I didn’t mean to brag, but it’s usually that I put extra emphasis on the tank staying alive. I’ve have brewmasters come close, but that’s usually on the opposite type of mob during a fort/tyr week.

How good BDK in terms of DPS for M+? . I have a 378ilvl BDK, but i found its Azerite traits is mostly Defensive. I have 402 ilvl prot Paladin. Prot Paladin has so many offensive Azerite Traits to choose from to maximize damage.

Generally, it’s quite low. Maybe you’ll see a small spike during Bonestorm, but our damage could be better

Lol that’s cool tho. Idk how often you on dk subforum but I’ve seen quite a few posts on blood being really good at healing as well as seeing a boatload of remarks about it in game.

Twas a jestful complement, but earnest.

Meant more in general how are they. I remember they use to be hps gods back in legion and reading this post, they still are. I always liked out healing my healers

BDK dps is meh.

Stay away from BDK azerite traits. If there is a ring that has a generic trait, take it.

Our traits are so bad that you could literally choose no traits at all on all your pieces and wouldn’t notice a difference in how well you play.

Except paladin.

As far as raid goes, all four tanks are good.

Middle of the pack. Roughly on par with Monk in m+, but still below both Prot War and Pally. Below Monk in progression raiding, but above V DH and Guardian Druid.

Looking forward with regards to PTR and especially the new azerite traits, All tank class besides Prot War and Pally are expected to receive a buff to their defensive capabilities. Prot War and Pally are expected to receive buffs to their defensive and offensive capabilities. There’s a reason my current tank projects are Prot War and Pally atm. I’m shelving B DK for the time being.

See. I don’t agree with both prots getting O and D buffs while everyone else gets D buffs. Not right. But I’m leaning towards my warrior from what I’ve seen last night in raid.

Yeah, I’m kinda pissed about it IMO. Blood got nerfs between M+ Seasons 1 & 2 that made our damage in-take slightly more spiky. Couple that with nerfs made to Bonestorm and we moved from #1 down to #3/4. Now it’s all about who can do the most damage. Which makes sense because the point of attacking a mob is to kill it faster than it kills you. Which warriors and paladins are certainly good at. With Prot war accounting for 20% of m+ group damage, at a certain point, no one will want anything other than a prot war… (that 20% will probably drop down to somewhere between 12-15% after 8.2, but still!)

During their cooldowns, it is a 25% DPS nerf on their highest source of damage. Outside of their cooldowns, it is no change to their damage. If their cooldowns were up 100% of the time and TC was the sole source of their damage, it would be a 25% DPS nerf. But since neither of those are true, it’s significantly less than a 25% nerf, not the 25-40% nerf that you think it is.

Appreciate the correction. I wasn’t quite sure how to convey that thought properly TBH. It wasn’t my intention to spread misinformation, I’m just not as familiar with how Prot War functions, though I’m learning as I level one up.
