The engineering belt could be used in the original tbc arenas. You want that changed in your post. You are #nochanges only when it suits you. Just admit nochanges is not always a good idea.

For the record I actually agree that the belt shouldn’t be able to be used in arenas, just don’t pretend that you are #nochanges.

Hey Sixx! It looks like discussion on server balance has taken off and it is great to see that they are discussing it often at blizzard. I wanted to elaborate a bit more on why I believe a combination of freemium server transfers and a tenacity like buff in the open world would help with this issue.

What WoW needs in the game is a counter balance tool that encourages populations to balance themselves out. And in order for populations to balance themselves out they need somewhat relatively free movement to want to do so (not everyone will pony up the cash to transfer). These two implementations would allow blizzard to no longer have to step in and manage populations with manual injections of Free Server Transfers or what have you. It would be self regulating in my mind because the players would be enabled to take the matters into their own hands using a Freemium Server Transfer (one that costs in game currency of some sort), and in so far as ROI and business incentive it is done so by playing the game more thereby increasing MAU and player retention. I feel like players would rather quit than pay $25. Something tells me that the good will has been slowly burning away and less players are finding reasons to continue giving blizzard money.

To elaborate on tenacity, the counter balance tool needs to be in favor of the smaller faction on a server and it needs to be strong enough for them not to not only want to stay on the server but for others to want to join them in enjoying the benefit.

I was trying to think of why a solo player would have issues with a tenacity like buff unless it was a solo player on the over populated side. I would argue that that is sort of the inherent point in tenacity. The over populated solo player has the advantage to rally other players to their side to fight off the opposing faction player.

This opposing faction player has, without tenacity, nothing that would incentivize them to take part in open world activities (where faction balance matters the most). But at least the solo player on the over populated side has that advantage of numbers. Where they can rally their faction to defeat the enemy!

If indeed that solo player on the over populated side hates it so much they have a freemium service in which to move to a more favorable tenacity balance that they can enjoy. They can even move to servers that are more suited to their general play style…in time and with luck and encouragement we could get servers with the hardcore players on one, more casual players on others, etc. But again probably won’t happen without a freemium server transfer service.

I don’t expect everyone to agree and I already saw people suggest tenacity has been tried and it didnt work, but I can’t remember outside of Wintersgrasp for which it was implemented. Since that was restricted to an activity that can be largely bypassed I would argue that is why it didn’t affect server balance.

Anyway again a bit longer than I expected, but again thanks for reading.

Glad they mentioned maybe polling the players. Sad they are considering making it RP. Just make it simple so everyone can participate quickly and easily. Launcher imo.

Thanks for the shoutout to Netherwind, sad to see Blizzard appears committed to pretending the problem doesn’t exist on the council forum as well.

The CC is a joke. Shutting 99.99% of the community out of discussions then asking for feedback? Really? Now we have CC members telling us how to behave if we want our side of the argument to even make it there when we’re using Blizzards official forums. This company is a joke.

As for you personally I would only ask that you stop speaking for other people and speak only for yourself. Especially when it comes to issues you know nothing about like OCE battlegroup merges. You aren’t a community ambassador, nobody voted for you. You don’t even live on the same side of the planet as us.

We desperately need changes to the PvP system. Honor gains too low, honor prices too high, participation in the gutter… This needs attention

One downside of the tenacity buff would be its affect on 1v1 fights (however rare they might be on a 99/1 server). But I supposed this would be possible by allowing the player benefitting from the tenacity buff to opt out of it.

Either way, this tenacity idea would fundamentally change how wpvp dynamics play out (which is kinda the point), so it seems that if there are less impactful incentive options that actually work, they may need to be tried first.

I totally agree on the need for incentives to be coupled with intelligent transfer system changes.

Just a thought. Overall I like the idea.

If Blizzard would simply update the free transfer list from November to reflect the current reality of so many newly low pop servers that would be superb.

Blizzard really needs to address the ‘dead server’ and ‘server faction imbalance’ issue. And they need to do it before the content patch. There are so many people that would likely come back to an old account, but if they log in to a dead server or one where there are only 30-40 active players left of their faction ON THE ENTIRE SERVER they are not going to stick around.

I’ve read the blue posts about needing to be careful and wanting lots of feedback about possible approaches, but the reality is they can’t just do nothing … or these people won’t play anymore. Free transfers will not solve all of the issues concerning imbalances for every server, but at least in these instances they really are warranted.

In reference to the pvp sever populations; I think one idea for a fix, could be a portal available in major cities that allows players to join a single cross-realm layer in which all realms are interconnected. This layer should be queue locked, if you try to join and your faction is already over 10% the majority (60/40) Meaning, you must wait for a spot to become available.

This kind of system would allow everyone to have their cake and eat it too. On a dominate faction and want balanced wpvp? Go here. On a minority faction and tired of being ganked? Go here for the 50/50~ you signed up for. And everyone can simply switch back to keep their unique personal server identities.

You could also entice players to join in on this layer by increasing the spawn rate of mobs and gathering nodes there. (perhaps a slight experience/rep gain increase as well)

Another cool idea could be a layer like this that is completely ffa pvp (same faction etc) with even greater incintive to join. However, I feel that would be straying kinda far from the scope of the issue at hand.

I 100% disagree regarding the ques.
Some of us… work and would like to login at any time to play the game and not have to pay $$$ to transfer to anew server each time it becomes too full and there is a long que.

This is a very complex topic.

if you put a cap on servers, then friends who join later on will not be able to join the same server you are on and play. Those players will most likely never start playing, which means Blizzard loses potential new customers.
This is an absolute no-go for Blizzard.

If you put no cap on servers, then you end up with layers.
This removes ques means you see less people in the open world, making things feel more empty.

What I would like to see from Blizzard is monitoring of faction balances.
For example, if one faction becomes too predominant on one server, lock all transfers of that faction, to that server. This forces players to make new characters on that server, if they want to play there.

Also if a faction begins transferring off of one of these servers en-masse lock all transfers for that faction. This would only allow others of that faction to come into the server and not leave. Which stops servers from “Bleding” to death.

Yes you will hear rage from players going, “you cant tell me what to do” you cant force me to play a certain way or not do what I want"… But it will solve the problem.

Most people never think at scale. Solutions that they like, may hurt the playerbase as a whole.

Remember, and this is a great life lesson, its NOT ABOUT YOU.
its ABOUT EVERYONE ELSE.
