The only good solution would be to make 5-10 servers into classic+ servers.
No matter what blizzard does with BC it’s going to upset people.
If they make classic servers separate from BC… okay you split the" classic community"… if you make classic servers progress to BC… okay then you make the people that know flying is garbage and only want to play classic lose their game they fought years to get.
There’s no right answers… enjoy being forced to transition to BC and having the Horde completely dominate every server when blood elves come out and blood elf Paladins stomp on alliance Paladins with their seal of blood.
The split will get even worse when wotlk comes out.
Think of destiny and destiny 2… once destiny 3 comes out destiny community is split up to much… so which version dies? Destiny 1.
Splitting up wow into 4 different versions will definitely split the community
That’s what I figured they’ll do. Leave a few Classic servers. Then create TBC servers and maybe give people who have level 60 characters the option to move to either one of the Classic servers or TBC servers.
They will make new servers, classic the objectively worse game, will drop down to very few people for a long time, and TBC will take over, they will offer transfers on the few classic servers left and the few people that like their objectively worse classes and gameplay because of “muh world pvp was ruined because of flying” can stay there. Even though people barely world PVP in classic as it is, even on large servers, they seem to think that flying was the thing that “ruined world PVP”
Fixed that for you. Honestly, there is no perfect answer, but BC was wildly popular and a far more polished game than Vanilla ever dreamt of being. This is all subjective, though, so…meh. Whatever. I say bring on Outlands!
If there is no tbc, I will stop playing classic. I’m sure there are other out there like me who just want tbc. The splitting the player base argument has no weight because eventually only the diehards will keep playing classic causing a shrinking player base.
It is likely that Blizzard will conduct additional polls. If Blizzard has sufficient evidence that a statistical majority wants TBC, then it is likely that all servers will convert to TBC servers, and players who want to remain Classic will have the option to transfer (at no charge) to some newly-created, specifically-designed “Classic Forever” servers.
Whereas if polling indicates that a statistic majority of players want to remain “Classic Forever”, then newly-created servers for the TBC launch will be created, and players will have the option to transfer (at no charge) to TBC servers.
In either case, there is the problem of some servers being severely fractured, and with some servers becoming a new ‘mega server’. So that’s something else Blizzard will need to deal with.
What worries me about a character transfer Is ppl bringing over tens of thousands of gold and subsequently cornering the market or certain items.
I perfect solution would be to have the option of a character transfer with a modest gold cap and also a few servers that are fresh only. I joined a fresh server in tbc that did not allow transfers on or off and it was the best time I have ever had in wow.
Yep, no matter what they do, something like 80% of current Classic players will quit playing within a year or two. PvE players will have either cleared Naxx or given up on it. They will have leveled all the alts they want. PvP players will have gotten their fill of BG’s. Most people will move on to other games, whether that’s TBC or something else.
A handful of servers will be enough to accommodate the 20% or so vanilla diehards who want to keep playing it forever and people in the future who want to come back to it or try it for the first time.
