Battletags, toon names & avoiding an ex

I hope this is the most baseless thing I see today.

No, this usually doesn’t do much if somebody really cares about finding somebody. Just gotta ignore, report for harassment and then repeated harassment if they continue.

Of all the things on the front page, this one is asking for the least attention. You on the other hand…

Message the folks you want to keep, let them know you are “revamping”. Then dump ALL friends and wait 24 hours before changing it all.

Had an ex g/f myself that used to stalk me in game til I made a new life for myself on Wyrmrest accord with a new Battletag.

How can anybody do this unless they don’t know people :dracthyr_uwahh_animated:

So everyone can see when you change your Battle tag to avoid scenarios like this? You think that’s safer, especially in this context???

This doesn’t make sense.

You can’t locate someone with their btag and even if they found it, you just hit decline then block when they send you an invite.

What do people even mean with safety it’s a video game the btag and char names aren’t real

The goal is to empty the list so NO one gets notified, then you copy down the names you want to readd in 48 hours after the change. Have only done it once, but have not heard from her in 15 years… so it worked.

go on?
I’d honestly prefer you left me out of your trolling and notifications.
Could you believe that? Is that within your realm of understanding? Or you feel you’re so important that everyone you address in bad faith must give you their full attention.

You would be able to if the forums use Battle Tags. I know reading comprehension is hard for you, Tovi, but at least pretend. Cheers, hun.

EDIT: Right, you have your profile hidden. Ironic…

So I actually have experience with this in a way. I had an ex who was “stalked” by an ex guildy (weird story and sounds worse than it was…but it technically is accurate).

  1. Removing from bnet friend silently removes from their side. For them, they’ll get a " X has gone offline" if they’re watching but wont see.
  2. You can add individual toon names and that doesn’t require an acceptance AND if you change that toon name, it’ll change on their end too. This isn’t a bnet thing though so they’d have to add EVERY toon and can not account for new toons or toons that move servers.

Given how quick it is to level and even gear up, someone truly concerned can just take matters into their own hands and either move servers OR just reroll toons. Blah blah blah not fair blah blah…yes it can be better but I’m a person who bows before the alter of personal responsibility and if I can solve an issue myself I’ll always opt for that over tilting at windmills and yelling at the wind to change for me instead.

What is someone going to do with your Battle Tag? Nothing. You can’t add someone’s Battle Tag without them mutually accepting it.

Give it a try, my Battle Tag is Woodenigloo#1908. It’s more secure and no sensitive information. Every other Blizzard game forum already uses Battletags and has been for a very long time.

Definitely need to start making a record of it, each and every time there is unwanted contact.

Might be able to ask the police the best way to do this, too. For safety/sanity.

Yeah, just don’t reply back because disputes often aren’t as easily helped. :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated:

No you wouldn’t. It doesn’t give your location.

I can’t hide my Armory, which tells you more about my character than a btag.

I’m pretty sure the idea is to remove, block, and then change btag

If your remove their BattleTag then there’s no reason to change it or block it. They can’t see when you log on once you remove them. The only thing blocking will do is prevent friend requests.

Been there before. I wish this person the best on their healing journey. This kind of thing takes years to heal from.
