The ol’ BLZBNTAGT00000840 - im reluctant to reinstall everything, and i dont think its background software, as i’m on a linux box. Repair tool ran, no help. Repair and such have always worked fine before.
New issues have popped up with Linux systems in the last 2 days. There haven’t been any notes about intentionally breaking it for that OS, but since it’s not officially supported there are also no notes on when or if it will be fixed.
Same issue here, also running Linux. Tried repairing the installation and restarting my PC, to no avail yet. I get the same error code when I try to manually update the game; when it attempts to auto-update upon Bnet launch, it appears to start the download, stop, and then the update button appears.
Yeah i see that, i read some of the posts in general. I would’nt have posted here on this topic about it if i saw that. I assumed tech issue posts aren’t allowed in general
They’re not supposed to be in General, but sometimes people land them there. Mods will likely relocate those posts.
I’m seeing the same Error Code: BLZBNTAGT00000840 on Linux. It would be great if this could get some attention.
I’m using a Steam Deck, which has been a great way to play when traveling, but now I’m offlined by the error as well. With the Steamdeck being on a Linux base that’s I’m line with what I see people here saying, so I’m hoping Blizz isn’t about to just leave us all high and dry. There’s already multiple threads on this today, so it clearly isn’t an isolated issue.
A way around the error has been found:
TLDR: Use GE-Proton in Lutris to launch the Battle.net launcher and update WoW, close the laucher, switch back to Wine in Lutris, then re-launch Battle.net and go on with your day.
This worked for me. Thank you!
Can never get bnet to launch with ge-proton and lutris support people say no you cannot use that…
I personally was having more issues than others with the GE-Proton and Wine swap.
Here’s what worked for me:
- Removing all Battle.net files
- Configuring Lutris to use GE-Proton
- Install the Battle.net launcher (which kicked an error at the end of the install, but still installed)
- Changed Lutris preferences back to Wine
- Launched Battle.net launcher
- Installed Retail and Cata Classic without any issues.
What sucked the most was that I couldn’t use an old backup of game files (the Battle.net launcher wouldn’t recognize the files), so I had to download Retail and Classic. Again.
I switched to Wine version 9 and that worked.
This has worked for me as well, Thank You,
I’m using Bottles on Arch Linux. For me what worked was changing the runner in Bottles’ settings from ge-proton9-22 to wine-ge-proton8-26. Can switch back to ge-proton9-22 after the game is updated.
This worked for me, but, lutris was not showing up my proton installation. For anyone who has this problem, what I did was install a steam game that required proton(do this if you haven’t already), then go into the steam steamapps common folder, and look for the proton folder. Go into that, and find the wine file. Then, set that file as the runner in lutris.
