Blizz should use our battlenet tag for posting. No one hiding behind level ones. And you couldn’t use multiple toons to keep a thread going, making it look like people agree with you (cough antiboosters cough)
You mean like you are hiding behind a lvl 24 alt?
Imagine paying to skip half the game.
Brilliant idea, that way people who disagree with you on a public forum can spam friend request you until you either have to block them or when you do hit the accept button they barrage you with insults.
When the Battlenet tag first came out, that was one of the ideas Blizzard actually had for it. It met with a lot of pushback from the forum warriors who wanted to remain anonymous and turned out to be exploitable from a griefing angle, so they decided against it.
I see both the pros and cons behind it but from the toxicity I have experienced and seen on YouTube videos from the WoW community, I don’t think it would work very well here. Like Classic WoW, it’s a good idea that can be abused and exploited for personal gain.
Thanks.
No, thank you. The beauty of the internet is that a person’s opinion can be valued on its own merit, not based on arbitrary extrinsic criteria. What you are suggesting serves only to confine debate by permitting - nay, cordoning - the practice of discrediting people by attacking their character rather than addressing their arguments.
Michaeas above me is a great case in point. In another thread he was making ad-homimen attacks against other people based on how many posts they had made and how long they had spent “reading” in the forums. Assassinating their character rather than engaging with them.
Or our fingerprints!
That’s how other blizz games do it. On the hearthstone forums it shows me as “scorched” without my numbers. It’s ideal cuz you cannot switch toons to agree with yourself or otherwise troll. The only reason to be against it is cuz someone does switch to different classic toons to agree with themselves and mass flag people. As “scorched” on the HS I have the ability to flag 5ish things a day and can’t switch toons to flag more.
Yes. It is good that you feel the right to make fun of my opinion, as you just did. You shouldn’t have been restricted from doing so because you weren’t posting on a Classic character to “prove” you “deserve” to post in this forum.
Bravo dude. . Bravo!!
We all know ananimity brings out the worst in society. . So. . yea. . While we all post on toons without real names. . well, der, that is proff in of itself there.
I do NOT value your opinion on its own merit. Not until there is a raport or reason to trust, or even listen to your opinion. The internet does NOTHING to facilitate that.
That is why my post is serious.
They kind of did this before and it backfired in their faces.
That’s fair, I agree that one should treat what they read with healthy scepticism. And a person who posts behind an anonymous avatar might, over time, demonstrate themselves to be a trustworthy contributor. Conversely, I’ve seen newcomers and strangers emerge unexpectedly to offer very insightful feedback.
Anonymity can bring out the worst, but it can also facilitate truly democratic conversations. Any day of the week, I would choose to tolerate a few trolls rather than have dialogue stifled by self-regulation out of fear of retribution.
I think I’ve posted on a total of 3 different characters, this is my main character and it’s just too annoying to swap between them.
Wow are you ever good at stretching the truth. Do you do a lot of work with the Republican Party?
I was pointing out that a LOT of the pro-boosters had only recently come onto the forums and had not been a part of the community during much of Classic’s release. And that many of them were posting from accounts that may have only had Beta access to the forums. You are the only one who has viewed that as “character assassination”.
Just to help you along, an-hominem means “against the person” and can only be viewed as a fallacy when it is used to dispute an argument. I wasn’t trying to dispute that they were for the boost, that was obvious. I just wanted people to know that a lot of pro-boost comments were coming from people outside of the Classic community is all.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
Lol, I live in Australia. Also, lol at attempting to disprove my allegations about your character assassinations, by attempting to discredit me through unsubstantiated remarks about my political affiliations.
Stopped reading there.
Yes, it is always better for some to stop reading what may conflict with your viewpoint of the world. Will give you credit for getting through the first sentence though before quitting.
Thanks.
I don’t need a social credit system to recognise that your opinions are self-righteous, disingenuous and not worth my attention.
All good. You do you. I just hope the sand doesn’t burn too much while your head is under.
Thanks.
Whoa. Not quite. Before “battletags,” there was only RealID: the first and last name on your account, per your billing information. In most cases, that was the player’s full legal name (or possibly their parent/guardian’s name). That was what caused the outcry. Having your full name attached to every post would be totally inappropriate. This was proven by a community manager offering his first and last name to make a point… and immediately being doxxed.
The other Blizzard forums simply use battletag, and there’s no issue as far as I’m concerned. It beats being locked to one character because of trust level.
Though, I’d like to be able to select an avatar.
