I am getting an error every few days where Battle.net refuses to update the game.
The “UPDATE” button replaces the “PLAY” button, but when pressing it, I get an error message – which of course won’t let me copy-paste the text, while the forum won’t let me insert an image of the error popup or a link to the help page that’s linked in the error.
It says something about an internal error, and the page it sends me to basically says “try waiting, try reloading Battle.net, try restarting your computer to kill processes stuck running in the background”.
Closing the Battle.net and checking Task Manager for Battle.net, Blizz, or WoW processes or services still running shows nothing going on in the background, unless it’s named poorly and I’m not finding it.
What is actually going on here, and how can I resolve it in a way more useful than “have you tried restarting?”
Is it something like:
Something went wrong with a file. We’re not sure what caused it, so please try again or click the code below for more information. Sorry about that!
Error Code : BLZBNTAGT00000840
Unfortunately we are going to start there, then check security software and if the drive folder is locked, which can happen sometimes with Windows Updates, 1 just recently went out actually.
I’ll hand-type the error message.
“An internal error has occurred. Please wait a few moments and try again. If this error continues, try restarting Battle.net”
BLZBNTAGT00001398
It’s not a windows update issue – I know for reasons I don’t want to debate.
Have done that.
Same error occurs on next attempt to update WoW in Battle.net.
Edit:
In the end, the only thing that “fixed” this was a system restart.
Edit 2:
Issue continues to happen every 2-3 days.
None of the listed fixes prevent or correct the problem.
Only a system restart will temporarily allow updates to function again.
And this thread will not allow me to update and prompt a deeper response, until someone else posts, because these forums are designed to be promotional, not helpful.
