Battle.net launcher has updates every day

Every day, over the past few days, my launcher says it has an update and I update it and then a few hours later, it does it again.

The version number never changes.

Mine has been doing that all day yesterday. Show an update is available, restart the client. instantly show there is an update again. I restart the client…

After the fourth time, gave up and just I ignored it.

Same here, started yesterday, booted up the launcher just now to yet another Bnet update. This is the 2nd or 3rd time in about 6 months now that the launcher gets stuck in this updating loop cycle. Blizz puts out a patch, it stops only for them to break it again a few weeks to months later.

mine has been doing this too is getting really annoying.

Ya same, been doing it since yesterday

This generally occurs when the game install is corrupt. It can be due to a patch not being fully applied while a connection issue is occurring. Try reinstalling to see if that corrects the issue.

Are the results any different if you run the launcher as admin?

I have the same as of about 2 days ago. No matter how many times I try to update it still says it has an update available.

This isnt occurring as part of a particular game install; this is the actual BNet launcher client that is doing this. Mine has been doing this as well these past few days. It is clear that Blizzard broke something.

Strange, mine hasn’t been doing it at all. Mine is saved directly on my pc on an SSD.

Is anyone that’s experiencing this issue using bnet installed on an external?

On an SSD, I have BNet and WoW installed, but I have the Arcade Collection and Diablo Immortal installed on secondary HDD. I have uninstalled and reinstalled BNet. Still telling me there is an update.

In most cases restarting your computer will correct the issue. MOST cases

When it does this, check your task manager and see if you have a bunch of other battlenets open. I’ve been noticing that lately that it won’t close the launcher all the way when I right click the tray icon and say exit, and will stay active in the background until I manually end the tasks, even though the icon goes away and it pretends to be closed down. Probably need to uninstall, delete all the folder vestiges scattered throughout the drive, and reinstall.

EDIT: Looks like there’s folders in the following spots, but there might be more:

C:\ProgramData\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net
C:\ProgramData\Battle.net
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\AppData\Local\Battle.net
C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEHERE\AppData\Roaming\Battle.net

EDIT2: After uninstalling, sure enough, most of the .exes are still there for things agent.exe and I doublechecked the task manager to make sure nothing was running. So it doesn’t actually uninstall, it just hides like some malware garbage.

Ain’t nobody got time to look for all of the files Blizzard screwed up. I’ve restarted the PC. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled BNet. It still shows up.

For those of you who are not having an issue: What version of BNet are you using? Mine is on 2.13.1.13521 and my Update Agent is 2.27.0.7779.

Just tested a completely full uninstall>delete all vestigial folders in my previous post>reinstall and the bnet process lingered around for ~20 seconds after closing the launcher, but it did fully close down eventually. Which is a change compared to it staying running constantly before.

This won’t stop unless some EU law forces their hand to cleanup their footprint.

Okay. So after this issue kept happening, I decided to uninstall the latest game that was installed: Diablo Immortal. Did that, and have not had any updates pop up.

Edit: And when I woke up this morning, BNet said it had an update… which was false. So uninstalling the game did not fix it.

Adding my voice to the list of people experiencing this. My battle net launcher has an update in the top left corner specifically for battle net but not a specific game. I’ve updated and restarted more than once and it just keeps popping up.

To be clear, my issue was with the Battle.net launcher getting constant updates, not the games themselves. They did not repeatedly ask for updates.

In the middle of playing, Windows interrupted me and said the Battle.net agent was updating. Seems to be OK now, will keep an eye on it.

I don’t believe it’s my system, this has worked well for months, no issues, and we all know the Battle.net launcher messes up from time to time.
