Turned my PC on this morning to find the battle.net launcher had uninstalled itself. All that was left was a dead link on my desktop. When I re-installed the app it installed itself with a different filename and in a different location that the previous battle.net launcher. This also happened to my wife. It is now called “World of Warcraft Launcher”, and it has a different splash screen and desktop icon. I guess my concern is that none of my other friends have this issue and I can’t find any documentation of this change anywhere. When I look in the app, it says last update was on 8/5/22.
Same thing happened to me! I got back from a work trip late last night and saw I had an update for classic, which got stuck at initializing. I was pretty tired so I figured i’d just figure it out this morning, and battle.net launcher disappeared, can’t redownload it- i keep getting “Failed- Network Error”, i’ve run speed tests (455.2 mbps download and 36.6 upload), cleared cache, and now have completely wiped my computer, and still happening. Additionally, i can’t even get to the support page to open a ticket. When i click on contact support, it says “one moment, please. The page is loading”- That’s been going on for about 30 minutes now.
This happened to me too.
Fortunately there seems to be a workaround. The launcher is still there. Go to the task manager and force close everything related to Battle.net (there are two things: Battle.net and Agent).
Then try clicking the link to open Battle.net as you normally do. It worked for me.
It happened to me as well, my B.net link on my desktop turned to a blank link and I had to go to the file location manually to start B.Net and I had to make a new desktop link.
Yeah, something is up, had no issues yesterday. When I clicked on the launcher desktop icon, I get a directory error. Tried launching from Battle.net folder as well with no joy.
I ended up doing it the old fashioned way. I went into the Retail folder and clicked on the WoW application icon and manually entered my login info.
Weird.
Thank you! I didn’t think to launch WoW directly, but it works fine.
The issue feels like a network thing to me. I had problems getting the launcher to work all day yesterday, but the errors changed. I had the “missing dll” error at first, and then after reinstalling, sometimes it would say the Agent was asleep; sometimes it would say that it couldn’t connect. I actually connected once and played for a bit, but then after quitting, the launcher reverted to the “agent is asleep” error.
I almost wonder if this isn’t a Blizzard issue but a Windows issue, that’s assuming we all are using Windows 10 for example. I had this exact same issue with my launcher but I closed it and reopened it multiple times and it just sort of… Forced itself to work?
Thing is, just yesterday I did a Windows update that was pending for awhile and I had another couple games on my PC do this exact same thing as well. Could be an error with the Windows API, I’m not sure, I’m not very tech wise, just throwing out my experience.
same issue here. Was very alarmed. I had an error message last night when I closed out of the game but considering… blizzard… I didn’t think anything of it. It happens sometimes. When I went to pull up Battlenet today it was gone. I followed the steps some other people had here, namely finding the battle.net launcher file in my file manager and opening it that way and repinning the shortcut, but it was very alarming.
I’m having the problem on Linux/Wine.
Same thing here, was worried for 2 mins…however, having troubles making a new launcher. Can do it manually no issues
Final fix for me, went here:
Top-right corner button will allow you to redownload the Battle.net launcher.
