Battlenet Launcher Crashing and Freezing PC

It’s definitely the Bnet launcher, not the game itself. I can play fine with the Bnet launcher closed, which I do now of course but still seems to be the best choice to report the bug now that I’ve figured out the source of my issue.

  • The issue is new as of around or just before the 8.3 release.
  • My entire computer freezes up for a solid 60-120 seconds (or more in one case) before becoming usable again. The Bnet launcher at that point becomes nothing more than an ugly looking Windows 7-looking border with nothing on the inside. I have to force stop the Bnet launcher and then all is fine again. I run Windows 10 so the older looking window frame seems notable.
  • The longer I play, the more likely it is I’ll have the issue.
  • If it happens once, it’ll 100% happen again as I know from before I figured out it wasn’t my game but my Bnet launcher causing issues.
  • So far as I’ve seen, the Bnet launcher does not crash or have any issue when just running without WoW started.
  • There are no error codes of any sort when this happens or I’d provide one. Just stops working all sneaky like.

Running a Radeam RX 480, Intel Core i5 6400, MSI H110M Pro-VD Plus (MS-7A15), and 16 GB of DDR 4.

I can run like a billion other things, including other resource heavy games or apps, without a hiccup but that damn Bnet launcher is killing me when I’m trying to play WoW.

I am having a similar issue, Blizzard launcher chokes my entire system and no matter what i do i can’t seem to fix it, my pc specs are different; 6 core r2 8 gigs ddr3 but i have no issues running the game it is only the launcher…and yes it started at about the same time. I don’t know what you all did but could you… i dunno ‘Undo it?’ please? :frowning:

Exact same issue here.

Same issue here as well, I have gone through everything including checking hardware to corrupted drivers, just seems to happen when blizzard app is running. Any resolutions?

I believe i’m having this issue also and funny enough the indicators are very similar as well. I previously reported my issue in the Technical Forums but i got no feedback on my WinMTR logs. Always I have the Battlenet launcher App open when playing the game, always. What normally happen is the game all of a sudden just freezes up as it happens randomly and it can then goes all Black the WoW Client and then flickers back to Windows to the Battlenet Client as if its causing some issue. Then it reverts back to the WoW Client as it unfreezes. When i either log out of game or Ctrl Alt Del back to Windows the Battlenet launcher is just a white shell with nothing in it at all. It often takes several tries before i can even close it. Which makes me think something is going on from the Launcher App that’s causing the random game freeze issue.

I’ve now started to just close the Launcher App after logging into game. But the issue occurs so randomly its hard to get it to replicate so i’m unsure when it will happen. But it seems when the launcher is closed I don’t ever notice the game freeze happening. Another issue along with this is that the Blizzard Launcher App is now useless being a White shell with nothing in it. I close it, i try to open it and i get nothing. Everytime I have to reboot my computer in order to be able to use the launcher when these game freezes occure and that’s just weird occurance with the Battlenet Launcher App. But i can’t say as not enough time has gone by since i been playing with the launcher App closed on playing.

I’m literally having this same issue. I was online playing the Shadowlands PTR just earlier this morning, and now all of the sudden the app freezes my computer EVERY TIME I try to launch it. I’ve done every “notably simple” trick to try to fix it, including uninstalling and reinstalling. Is there still no fix for this??

Having this same problem too right now, tried deleting Blizzard Entertainement program data and reinstalling battle.net. No luck… Seems to be related to PTR trying to update. Tried deleting PTR but still freezing.

Launching battle net is now causing my computer to ‘blue screen’ & force a restart. Was having the same issues as reported here with a double screen set up. Please help blizzard.

Edit: game will only work when I use the Twitch client to load.

Same thing here. I even had Bnet already launched when I let my PC idle last night, talked to people on Steam, on Wire, started a video on youtube. Then I clicked into the Bnet window and the whole thing locked up. Had to safemode, turn off launch on startup, and then when I tried launching afterward same thing again.
