Battle.net Issues

Decided to resub for MoP Classic, went to reinstall WoW and got stuck on the “preparing installation” window. Relaunched battle.net and it said the updater fell asleep, tried to uninstall it and it would just give me errors, so manually uninstalled it following blue post recommendations by deleting all of the files.

Now, trying to reinstall battle.net, the download gets stuck at 45% and then errors out. None of the suggested fixes I’ve managed to find are working, except one I haven’t been able to try (Resetting the WMI Repository because I get an access denied error despite being in admin mode).

Running the agent exe does nothing, the exe doesn’t open or even appear to try to open. I’ve made allowances for my firewall, I’ve even completely disabled my firewall, so it’s not being blocked by that.

I’m getting super frustrated, there’s no telling how long it’ll take for my ticket to get a response, and no one else I’ve spoken to has any idea how to fix this issue. I even tried porting all of the files over from my laptop, which was able to install battle.net perfectly fine, but upon launching the app, it just gets stuck on the “the updater has fallen asleep” window and doesn’t do anything.

Anyone know what to do?

Check your security software and that windows is updated. If MacOS there’s a separate forum. Not sure what os you have.

The ticket probably will link to a support page like this, fyi.

Also make sure you have space on your drives.

(I’m OP, I changed my forum character but didn’t realize the post I’d already made would keep the original character).

Yep, I was linked to that exact page, which unfortunately did not help.

I’m on Windows 10, everything is up to date, I’ve made sure my firewall and security allow battle.net to function (I ran it last year with zero issues). I mean when I first launched it yesterday it was working perfectly, it wasn’t until I tried to download WoW that everything broke.

I really hope I don’t have to like, wipe my computer and start completely over or something. Short of doing that, or updating to windows 11 and either of those miraculously working, I don’t know what to do at this point. And nearly everyone I see that has had this same issue couldn’t find a solution either, and the solutions that some people did find didn’t work for everyone.

Try this instead:

I’ve tried that, I get error 5 saying access denied even though I’m in my admin account and running as administrator. I couldn’t figure out how to get around that issue.

Your admin permissions are likely corrupted in your Windows install. I recommend following the guides Microsoft offers on their Windows site to see if you can restore them.

Probably, though I dunno how that could have happened. Either way the issue is fixed now as I upgraded to Windows 11 and everything’s working lmao.

Thanks for trying!
