Ok built a new gaming desktop with a fresh new win10, pulled wow retail from my laptop and the game runs fine by launching its .exe it shows 9.0.5 37988 (x64) on login screen, is that the current version? Pulled the battle.net app over and it refuses to see the wow game it says “this folder doesn’t contain the correct version of this game” and it wants to do a new install of 75 gigs which is not an option on my phones hot spot. have already done things suggested like deleting folders using win+r. I really don’t even care about the battle.net app that much but when I need to patch is there a way to patch around it? Or does anyone know how to get the app to see my game install?
Try this
your first pic of “game settings” that option is grey I cant click it that’s weird huh, ya second pic the downloads that works but says cant find any games, on the main screen where the play button for wow is theres an option there to locate the game I tell it the right place and it says “this folder doesn’t contain right version” I wonder why that one option is grey? can you tell me if 9.0.5 37988 is current version Im thinkin it is since wow runs fine when I launch with wow.exe but wanna make sure, thanks for ya help
Hi Aronax
Let’s try reinstalling Bnet.
Step 5 must be completed - delete the Battle.net folder
I thought of that yesterday but was hesitant to do it because I have to be very careful and selective about what I DL through my phones hot spot since its limited. Due to where I live I am extremely limited on ISPs which is a whole other story. I deleted all folders of battle.net and re installed it, still same problem. On both retail and classic which both run fine via their own executables battle.net says same error as before “this folder doesn’t contain the correct version of the game” I have done this many times, moved the games to different drives and I have never had this problem before I could always just tell battle.net where the game was and it was fine. This is really annoying me LOL. Back to my original question is there any way to keep ya games patched to current without using battle.net?
Some players have been experiencing issues with AVG and Avast. Are you using either of those?
Ok I fixed it. Since battle.net was working on my laptop I had a feeling that was the key to getting it working on my desktop so heres what I did. Deleted all battle.net folders on desktop this includes the main program folder and there is also a folder on ya system drive thats normally hidden “ProgramData” theres 2 folders in there battle.net and blizzard entertainment. deleted those. made my folders exactly the same on new desktop as the ones where it worked on laptop for me this is C:\games\battle.net and C:\games\World of Warcraft with 2 folders in it for retail and classic. Then pulled battle.net from laptop and the 2 folders in the hidden folder “programdata” I noticed those are large think both was couple gigs. Think something in those was the problem since up to this point I had not moved those over only the core battle.net program folder which has always worked in the past. Have noticed other people having same issue. Do it just like I did make sure to move those 2 folders in the hidden folder “ProgramData” which is on ya root system drive and bet it works. Basically what this procedure does is make an exact clone of how it worked before and this was the only thing that worked for me.
Good to see Aronax. Thanks for reporting back.
