Battlenet 2 versions?

Recently when starting Battlenet I keep getting the message :
"We’ve detected a newer version of Battle.net than the one you are attempting to launch. You may need to fix your shortcut’s ‘’ Insert Button that says [ Continue with latest version]

If I click the game starts , But why is this happening ? I have used the same start icon for years without this message , I did a search and found 2 versions of the Battle.net.exe

c:\Program Files (x86)\Battle.net\battle.net.exe :this is what starts my version of wow"
c:\Program Files (x86)\Battle.net.battle.net.extract\battle.net.exe

Am I hacked? I did see one other post with the same issue but nothing was resolved there …

Addition : If I start Battlenet and click the symbol at the top left then click Battle.net updates the latest one is 2.27.0 dated 12.1.23 but if i click settings the version number at the bottom is 2.28.0.14589

I switched to beta, but ended up re downloading the game.
After i got beta to work… No more of that popup.

You had to re-download the entire game?

Yes it refused to update.

I had the same issue. The fix was to download the Battle.net launcher from the website and install that. Cleared the issue, and updated to the newest version.
