I just came back to the game…got level 70 mainly preparing for wrath but wanted to enjoy the last pvp season here in tbc…
80-90% of random battlegrounds are auto loss. im legit baffled as this isnt the case on retail where your random BG win/loss rate usually evens out to 50%ish.
what is going on here? no matter what i do to help my team, we lose.
I see alliance give up for their one mark as soon as they’re down 50 points. Haven’t seen that in retail in a while unless there’s getting absolutely demolished.
If you’ve just finished leveling and are undergeared, it’s normal to lose more than you win. Keep at it. Gear up and smash. Once you’re consistently top 3 damage dealers, you’ll find you win more than you lose as a difference maker.
Unfortunately this is more or less the truth. The average gear of your BG team plays a HUGE component of your teams ability to win games. Since strategy is non-existant in a pug team, gear will often carry teams to victory since coordinated plays dont happen.
Once you are geared yourself you can massively sway games on your own. If you are undergeared yourself, putting together a squad of 3-4 really well geared mates will see you win a LOT more games.
There is one caveat however. OCE battlegroup is an ABSOLUTE MESS. Since we have sooo few players, therr are normally only 1-3 BGs running at any given time during the week with up to 6 BGs being available on weekends. What this means is because there us barely anyone queuing during the week, if you queue into a BG and win, you are likely to just keep winning until enough new players queue up to mix up the teams you are playing with/against.
For instance, there were only 2 EotS going saturday morning for me, and i won 12 games in a row. Because i would just keep queing into the same team again and again. Likewise on a different day, I could have 10 losses in a row because i would have the same team with no healers and undergeared players every game.
This is why MANY OCE players are begging to have our BGs and arenas re-merged with US so that you dont end up in this stupid position in the first place.
Honestly people are just sick of the chore of honor farming and if it’s easier to lose they take it. I’ve been in many games where we have 2-3 undergeared people and our team just says “lol 3 people in greens, I’m afk”
this certainly isnt true after ive kept playing. Went 1 win 10 loses today. the win rate is significantly different in tbc. I’ve noticed also in TBC people tend to not really do anything.
for example in TBC EOTS, people don’t bother capping the initial 2 bases at game start. this almost never happens in retail.also, ive seen THE ENTIRE TEAM in different games all stacked at 1 base while the alliance are 3 capping. Never have seen that many player sitting around one base on retail.
I just hit 70 on my lock (who’s still wearing 3/4 T3 gear) and my ele (who’s wearing leveling greens save for the s2, 1h caster dps mace)…
Both of them being ranged characters, it’s rare I’m not near the top of the board for damage/kills at the end of a game, despite being in relatively garbage gear… Gear really only matters when you’re being attacked, after all (and yes, both the lock and the ele get absolutely shredded when actually attacked)… On a melee, I’d probably just hide in AV until I had a full set XD, but ranged seem to be more or less fine anywhere but wsg.
Pvp gear in retail is useless in pve.
Pveers get into bgs and afk for free second hand pve pieces in tbc.
Hence why tbc pvp is so poorly played: they are just farming
It’s pretty frustrating at times. I feel like I’m a decent player and I went 1 for 6 (lost 6 games in a row, won the 7th one and that was the next day) trying to get an AB win last week when it was the daily. My hunter is pretty geared but this happened on my Lock who is in progress. But I’ve had terrible streaks on the hunter also. Practically blow my mind out trying to carry the team to victory, still lose. Or, do absolutely nothing in the AB I won last night for the daily 2000 to 60 five cap…there’s little to no rhyme or reason and I just try not to take it too personally at this point.
I think the main issue with BGs on Classic versus retail is the duration of the BGs.
Losing a 10 minutes BG on retail doesn’t give crippling depression like losing a 30 minutes AB does on Classic.
People are more prone to just give up and want the BG to end faster if they can’t be guaranteed a win when BGs last 30+ minutes.
I wonder if Wrath will incentivize winning in BGs. I remember having so much fun back in the day trying to singlehandedly carry my team to a victory. I guess once achievements for BGs are accounted for, more players will actually start to participate heavily without just sitting idle or afking.
They added a timer for WSG in WotLK, Strand of the Ancients is a fairly short BG to complete and a good player can have a much bigger impact in that BG than other BGs overall, Arathi Basin points required was reduced to 1600 from 2000, same with Eye of the Storm. You also get a 50% bonus honor from kill while defending a point in AB or EotS.
So you’re fresh 70 with bad gear and wondering why the teams you contribute to are losing against end season geared players? Shocked pikachu face indeed.
all activity outside of arenas and swp are pretty much dead
is the end of the road for tbc
either do those things or leave until wrath comes out
anything not sunwell/s4 gear will be replaced with level 71 greens so no need to “prep” outside of proffesions
When I get 4 other guildies to queue with me it’s almost an auto win. I think you need to group more with at least one other person. Not only makes it more fun but more successful
I win a lot of the bgs I play. Then again I try hard and call out strategy in bg chat and play to win. Sacrafice myself for the team, ninja nodes etc
If the group has no plan no strategy, that’s not good. If you make some basic commands and calls in bg chat, it get’s the less experienced people to know what to do. usually they’re looking for someone to lead until they learn how the battleground works
and its contagious, if I start talking in bg chat, other people start calling incs and calling out weak nodes etc… it all helps the team win
communication is everything
it depends on the time of day too… sometimes I run into premades 4-5 times in a row so those are tough games, maybe winnable if we have a good team but usually losses since a lot of people give up from the start
