Hey everyone!
I’ve been grinding out a lot of battlegrounds recently, and from what I’ve personally felt and a lot of my guild feel is that honor gain is very low at the moment.
It seems that bonus honor rewarded is correct compared to original TBC values, but there may be some odd bugs with HK honor giving less then intended. I’m not sure exactly what’s going on here regarding the underlying issue, but the overall honor gain is coming out to roughly 500-1500 per hour depending on wins or loses. Obviously if you’re horde you’re looking at significantly less honor per hour then Alliance, but that isn’t the purpose of this thread.
I personally farmed 48 EoTS marks over the last two days and got roughly 7500 honor total from it all. I distantly remember being locked behind a mark grind, not an honor grind, in TBC. You could queue up AV for 8 or so hours and hit honor cap, or at least close to it with a reasonable win rate.
From a gameplay standpoint this seems extremely insane for entry level gear. It’s on par with dungeon gear in most places. For pete’s sake, the current best honor farm is to hold one base in EoTS and run flags the entire game. That’s right, you’re trying to lose on purpose in order to maximize honor gain.
To the devs: is it intended for entry level honor gear to take 7-10 hours per item to grind out?
If the current honor grind is completely blizzlike to TBC, then is it possible to discuss re-adding the 100% honor buff back from pre-patch or something similar? The current honor grind is absolutely horrendous from a gameplay perspective due to the relative low strength of the rewards you get for the overall time invested.
(Please respond blue, I beg you!)

You hit the nail on head, my brain cannot feasibly rationalize grinding hundreds of hours of bgs just for blues. The saddest part is that posts with actual value like yours will be left unseen while the majority of idiots continue to argue with each about it being a horde vs alliance issue. At this point I don’t even care about the hour long Horde queues, the honor system is just horribly broken.

Thank you! The Horde vs. Alliance queue times is a huge issue, but drastically increasing the honor earned will help alleviate a lot of the problem there. The more reasonable it is to farm the honor set the more people will queue up (alliance too!).
The more people that have been able to farm honor gear the more that will step into arena. It’s good for veterans and new players alike.
sounds like ‘working as intended’ to me

Right, but the number of Horde players vs. Alliance is an issue that’s driven by players, not by an honor bug. Again, the main issue is NOT Alliance vs. Horde…
It costs close to 200,000 honor to get full resilience gear, majority of them being blues. Even if you are an alliance player getting instant queues and have a win/loss ratio 75%, which are incredibly generous circumstances, it will still take an immense amount of time to grind this amount of honor when you are averaging around 500 honor per game, 400 bgs as an estimate.
I suspect this whole issue arose during prepatch when blizzard fixed the bug in which players were getting thousands of honor per game, they nerfed it way too hard and now we’re suffering the consequence

Well that’s what I was trying to say here. There may be a bug causing honor kills to give less honor then intended.
As it stands the time investment required compared to the relative power of the rewards is very off from a raw gameplay perspective.
If the rewards aren’t worth the time required less and less people will even bother to queue up, only making the problem worse.
There’s no way 2-7 honor per kill is intended. I can’t find videos that show how much honor per HK they were getting in vanilla TBC, but I can remember at one point farming HK’s actually was decent honor in TBC.
During prepatch there were a few threads about it where some linked old AV videos displaying kills. If I’m remembering correctly it mentioned how honor is being split too far, where the lowest honor a kill should give a group regardless of size was 12 or so.
I wish I could find the link for it. Someone went pretty in-depth about it but it got hurried rather quickly in all the other prepatch threads
Pvp is my favorite thing to do in the game and currently I’ve stopped queing because of how slow the honor gain is. It just doesn’t feel worth it to que. Only flag caps in EotS give bonus honor and HKs feel worthless as well.
I can live with que times, but at the end of the day, people are looking to get gear before the pvp season starts. It just doesn’t seem like bgs are the most viable way to do so currently.
I had a look at some of my old TBC videos and they seem to be about the same as current TBCC. Solo kills get about 20 honor, in big groups (AV etc) it can be as low as 3 per kill.

Honor has been low for 3 weeks, people didn’t notice because “well your level 60 so honor is lower” this statement is true but even with x2 honor in prepatch I was gaining less than I would at level 60.
People are just now starting to wake up because we are no longer level 60.
So what’s going on is a “Hey wait a minute.” Situation. Honestly it’s been interesting to watch and as someone who only casual pvps I’ve been slow leveling because of it. No point in being 70 if it takes me over a month to get blues.
Oh yea and horde que times, so now looking at leveling a goat shaman. So I will be in 49 twink bracket till a fix gets added. Have fun at 70.
Found some screenshots as well, which are much easier to see than on crappy low res video from 14 years ago.

Group kill (with leaderboard so you can even see bonus honor): https://imgur.com/lNpS6bz
So while it might not be what people want to hear, it seems accurate.

If this is accurate how in the hell did people farm the blue set? is bonus honor in like EotS broken maybe?

This was Blizzards “Fix” for premade V pug way back when, Make BGs totally irrelevant and undesirable. The only PvP that is relevant in TBC is arena.
it cant be right, i couldnt have farmed 2 full sets in 1 season as a 12 year old in actual BC if it was like this

This goes against my narrative so i’m going to completely discard it while explaining in detail about enacting coitus with your parents and questioning your sexuality
I didnt farm 2 blue sets, but ik i farmed some GM (lvl60) items and some blue items @70 and i kno for a fact my 12 yr old self didnt spam bgs 12+ hours a day

I remember pvp gear via honor taking an insane amount of time to collect full set in vanilla TBC.
If you seen a player in a BG with more than a few pieces of pvp gear on, you knew they spent a lot of time pvping and had a reasonable knowledge of how the battleground worked.
It was a huge sense of acheivement when i got my full honor armor set and weapon.

There was a reason some heroics had resiliency pieces - the time it took to get an honor set at TBC vanilla’s start was rough
I remember 61 honor being one full HK but my memory might fail me.
