Battleground Blitz MMR System Is Fundamentally Broken

I’m writing this out of pure frustration with how utterly dysfunctional the current MMR and rating system in Battleground Blitz is. The matchmaking feels designed not to reward skill or improvement but to punish players who succeed by trapping them in rating limbo.

After reaching 2230 rating through consistent performance, I was immediately dragged into a spiral of losses due to completely random, unbalanced matchmaking. And no — this isn’t just “losing streaks happen.” This is a system that punishes you more for losing than it rewards you for winning. I now lose 25–30 rating per loss and gain only 10–12 for a win due to being in mmr and cr hell. My MMR no longer matches my CR, and the system refuses to let me recover unless I go on some miraculous win streak while being saddled with underperforming teammates.

You’ve created a solo queue environment that doesn’t respect individual performance, doesn’t allow for meaningful recovery after a rough patch, and seems to actively discourage competitive integrity.

It’s clear that whoever is designing these systems has no understanding of competitive solo PvP environments. There’s no transparency, no safeguards, and no player agency. It feels like we are being shoved into a slot machine where only the algorithm wins — not the players.

If this system is meant to be “competitive,” then explain how punishing good players harder than bad ones, rewarding mediocrity, and forcing 50% win/loss outcomes encourages anything but burnout and resentment.

Blizzard should implement a system where:

  1. Rating change is partially weighted by performance metrics such as:
  • Objective participation (e.g., base captures, flag returns, carts pushed)
  • Damage/healing done relative to spec norms
  • Deaths vs. kills ratio
  • Time on defense/offense zones
  1. Players who are severely underperforming (e.g., bottom 10% of all metrics) in multiple matches in a row should:
  • Lose more rating than their teammates in a loss,
  • Or gain less (or nothing) in a win.
  1. Players flagged as consistently dead weight could be temporarily matched with others of similar impact level, allowing higher MMR brackets to remain clean.

Blitz isn’t an indicator of any sort of skill whatsoever. Just get rid of rating all together and make Blitz like it was in Dragonflight so we can just farm Conquest. As Supatease said, “40% of the time you win with the lobby roll. 40% of the time you lose with lobby roll. 20% of the time you MAYBE will be able to influence the outcome of it.” Blitz is a lobby RNG simulator… nothing more.
