Battle Rez

I think the shaman class should be able to battle rez. Why?

  1. Losing the exclusivity of being able to Bloodlust/Heroism took a lot of wind out of their sails. I understand why it was done… but now that so many other classes can do it (and I’m not counting Drums, that’s an inferior buff), they need something else that makes them stand out.
  2. They’re the one class that can resurrect out of combat AND self-rez in combat without counting against the total number of battle rezzes… yet, they can’t battle rez?!
  3. There’s very little else they can do that a mage can’t. A mage can make cookies, provide the Int buff, steal buffs, etc. I’m not saying my ele shaman doesn’t have anything my mage can’t do (his spell interrupt certainly seems better), but the utility seems to favor the mage class in a head-to-head comparison.

Personally I’d just rather ankh reset per boss fight like other defensives.

In reaping our earth ele is amazing, and cap totem is hot.

Saying Lust isn’t exclusive enough so we should take OTHER classes’ exclusive ability isn’t a great argument. Shaman dungeon utility is already great - Lust, AoE Stun, Purge, Earth Elemental, Tremor Totem, a short-CD interrupt, self-rez and more.

“we should take OTHER classes’ exclusive ability”

I’m pretty sure Battle Rezzes aren’t exclusive… just like Bloodlust/Heroism isn’t exclusive anymore.

That’s kind of the point.

And yes, I realize shaman has those things. Aside from the short interrupt (which I noted), mages have all that… probably more. They may not have a self-rez, but I know Fire can be dropped to 0 HP once every 5 minutes without necessarily dying. I would consider that at least as good. It depends on the situation, of course.

If shaman players are happy, I’m not going to argue… But saying there can’t be any overlap between the classes strikes me as extreme.

No one cares about any of that, lets be honest. Its cool but like a apple computer its ultimately pointless. You can buy lust, plenty of classes have interupts, and tremor is meh. I dont want a self rez but would be nice to have something that makes shamans desirable besides dps.

Exclusive meaning limited. Can’t complain something isn’t limited enough, then say the solution is make things even more available. You’re the one that argued since they don’t have anything unique, give them something that’s already available to 3 other classes. Should they allow warlocks to Lust, because they share brez ability with druids and dks?

By all data available, elemental shaman is doing superior to fire mage in keys. Frost mage is a different story, but their superior utility is slows, not anything you mentioned.

To clarify, I am NOT saying Shaman’s in a great place, they don’t deserve anything. I’m saying Brez is not the solution.

Are we talking about Shaman as a whole or just elemental? You have Ankh but you also have Ancestral Protection Totem which is another Brez, not on the Brez counter, that is also a defensive cooldown up until its consumed.

The difference is totems mainly and some minor utility.

  • Tremor
  • Grounding
  • Sky fury
  • Counter strike Totem
  • Earthbind
  • Earthgrab
  • 20-40 second AoE Stun (Dependent on targets hit w/ talent)
  • Thunderstorm (targeted on an ally with traveling storm)
  • Earthquake knockdown
  • Wind shear is still the best kick in the game
  • Ghost Wolf is a different kind of mobility than Blink. Neither are quantifiable defensively really but both in flavor and strength they vary greatly.

Then again if we’re talking Shaman as a whole you’ve got an additional list of things that seperate the two.

I would understand if we’re talking about “Shaman vs Mage” but you’re going from the perspective of “Elemental vs Fire, Arcane, and Frost”, more than doubling the amount of procs, passives, talent variety, and versatility that a single spec has to compete with with a limited amount of usable talents.

This thread seems entire PVE based, so ignoring grounding, sky fury, counter strike, and traveling storm.

Earthgrab is not ele.

AoE stun is 60 second base, can be reduced by up to 20 seconds with talent. So 40-60, not 20-40.

My bad on that cap cooldown.

I actually meant to remove grab from that list until I figured out if it was spec vs spec or class vs class but bg queue popped and forgot before I posted it lol.

The flavor of a spec is in the entire kit though. If we’re just talking Brez then I’m fine with looking at each entirely from a PvE perspective but if we’re comparing the two based on utility I don’t think it should be limited to PvE only. Any PvE comparison of utility between specs ultimately comes down to what utility is more useful in the tier and whether or not it merits a dungeon or raid slot.

It’s a PvE thread tho based entirely on raids and mythic+ …which you can’t drop skyfury despite “flavor”
