That’s it. That’s the post.
I will die on this hill.
I thought it was alright
- nice/aesthetic zones (especially!)
- outdoors-y/sunny settings… more enjoyable than the gloomy/depressing SL zones
- good dungeon pool
- allied races added some new “flavor” to the game
- story alright
- borrowed power was fun IF you had it, I can see how folks who didn’t have it would complain though… personally I enjoyed feeling OP due to corruption (for example)
It’s a minor thing, but it was the last expansion that had separate/dedicated capital cities for each individual faction, and Dazar’alor and Boralus were both well-done and aesthetic
I love my hill. It’s a beautiful hill.
I’ll say this, Boralus is the best looking Alliance city in the game by a large margin.
It was ok story wise but certain things really brought it down. (looking at you azurite armor)…
So what was your favorite part about:
- Sylvanas’s entire character being ruined
- Teldrassil being burned down for no reason
- N’zoth being released and dying in the same patch
Dungeons and Raids were fine to excellent (BoD).
Essences were great and should have been in at launch.
Allied Races were fun.
Islands were horrible.
Warfronts were even worse.
Everything to do with Azerite was terrible.
Corruptions were both great (the devs were just having fun with how crazy OP we got, especially with things like Twilight Devastation and Echoing Void) and terrible (your class became an RNG simulator.) Corrupted Visions were decent solo content.
I forgot to mention, but transmogs were solid in BFA as well. The “faction-themed” armor sets in particular looked great in PvP
Faction mogs (e.g. the Warfront sets) were good. But having only one armor set per type per raid tier was terrible. Easy as pie to collect, but if it didn’t fit your class (which was most of them) it might as well not exist. The Leather and Mail sets in particular were especially jank. (Cloth and Plate were fine.)
Agreed, hope they never bring that back.
weird hill to die on but aight, want your grave on this hill too?
What was wrong with the Sylvanas story? Teldrassil was Sylvanas striking a huge blow to the Alliance. I didn’t play when it was current content. Also what is wrong with Azerite Armor?
It had potential. Was big time squandered
TWW Is kinda the same with its story i feel.
Nerubians one patch and dumped just like bfa starter patch with faction war.
Goblins one patch and dumped like nazjatar
Who tf knows the last part.
I think its why i liked wrath and legion more. The xpac threat was the threat the whole time (well wrath had ulduar but otherwise)
BFA was a frikkin mess; it had some good stuff but a lot of it frankly sucked.
The good:
- Warfronts were honestly fun IMHO; we got to have a large scale battle that we were able to fight in as opposed to the tiny skirmishes we more frequently get stuck in.
- Island expeditions in and of themselves were fine, but the AI that they tested there for the OpFor was frankly stunning; it was incredibly responsive and relatively clever in a way that had me second guessing as to whether or not it was a player the first time I saw there movements.
- Corruptions were big stupid fun. Like they were broken and absurd and not something that blizzard will likely ever bring back but by the same coin… they added a high risk high reward approach to gameplay that was legitimately fun to play around with.
- Nyalotha was a conceptually fascinating raid.
The bad:
- The war campaign sucked. Like we got a crappier MoP war arc that functionally divided the player base in 3: Alliance, horde players who sided with Saurfang, and the sylvie simps. The whole thing was just so god damn dumb and I don’t think anyone was actually satisfied by the ending.
- Azerite being a thing for like… 20 seconds.
- Azerite gear wasn’t exactly fun.
- Climbing up and down that stupid pyramid.
- Nzoth being a blink and you miss it affair.
- Baine being pretty well useless.
- The alliance basically just getting endless wins throughout the expansion.
- None of the frikkin story elements really having anything to do with each other.
- Battle of Nazjatar was functionally unplayable for horde thanks to Ruin exploiting warmode.
- Warmode reminding me why world PVP sucks.
- Every patch had a new stupid gimmicky system and some of them (like benthic) weren’t even supported between patches.
Really the only reason why anyone thought it was good IMHO is because either they adored warmode being a complete mess or Corruptions at the end being a thing.
The same alliance who got so hard done up by at the start of the expansion that blizzard implemented the bee quest as an official in-game apology?
I enjoyed BfA, once you no longer had to worry about Azurite.
It depends which patch you’re talking about. 8.0 was very bad, while 8.3 was pretty good.
The issue was that it was incredibly stupid; the Horde had functionally won the battle of darkshore and were in a position to dictate terms to the alliance WRT how things were going to be on Kalimdor… and then because Sylvanas was triggered by some random night elf yammering about hope she plunged the horde into a war with no frikkin plan beyond “kill lots of dudes.”
We traded out having stats for specific abilities that oftentimes just didn’t feel good.
The alliance that basically got to have straight wins from that point onwards:
- Lordaeron gets wrecked
- Dazzalor gets raided and Rastakhan killed while having… Mechatorque (a character I’m pretty sure most alliance players forgot even existed) get injured… and then going on to be the king of all the gnomes.
- The horde gets split between loyalists and idealists.
- The Alliance canonically “wins” both warfronts.
- The horde retires the position of warchief.
Like… I’m not sure how much more you realistically could of wanted aside from getting to decapitate sylvanas and play soccer with the head.
