Battle for Azeroth Armor Sets

Just to keep it short:

I have yet to see any armor set in this expansion that’s made me say: “Damn, I have to get that.”

The armor is uninspired, bland and lacks character. Re-colors have been a thing for a long time now, but it has cranked up severely since WoD.

The “unique” armor sets they do have share no relation to the content it was released with. IE: MoP’s HoF sets.

I cannot help but feel these changes in the game are in someway tied to the huge amount of turnover Blizzard has faced as a company paired with their ever increasing lust to cut expenses.

Ah, well. I’ll just add it to the large list of forgettable things about this expansion and hope that when it’s over, all traces of it will leave my conscious mind.

I always have to chuckle when people see something about the game they personally don’t like, and leap to the conclusion that it must mean there’s internal strife within the development team.

Leap to a conclusion?
Do you play WoW that much that you’re unaware of the outside world?
Have you not heard/seen the reports from their former staff? The reports on their public earnings and employee lay off?
Are you that underneath a rock that you don’t know what’s going on with the company you’re giving your money to?

Did you know there’s a pandemic right now?

Have you logged out of the game in the past year?

lol

The artwork has always been one of this game’s strong points. But that hasn’t stopped people from endlessly complaining about how the sets look from the very beginning.

I dunno about that. I decided to level an alliance plate wearer just for the Ivory/gold plate. Everyone rocked it for good reason. There are a few that are pretty good.

Some sets look good, but I agree, most are pretty uninspiring.

If you look back at legion, it’s sets were leaps and bounds better, and tomb was a bunch of reused ideas from BC, yet still look better than BFA

I think a lot of it has to do with the loss of class sets.

We’re seeing far fewer sets than ever because 1 set must cover all classes of that armor type. So one tier of raiding has 4 sets, when it would normally have 12.

The art team, while very talented, has far less freedom when 1 set must represent all classes that wear that armor. You just can’t get creative with these kinds of restrictions

It’s probably Blizzard wanting to save time on sets to get content out quicker, but I wish they’d bring back class sets. They really were something I looked forward to every tier

My only issue was the elite sets being a pain in the backside to collect. I didn’t like the mage 7th Legion set much, but the rest of it, mail and plate elite especially, were excellent. Leather was cool too.

Darkshore was more of a mixed bag, the elite mail was fantastic for anyone who wants a Night Elf archer, and both versions of the cloth were a godsend for Priest of Elune roleplayers. The leather is a bit hit and miss. Elite boots, helm and gloves: superb. Shoulders and chest and legs, eh, a bit rough. Plate is largely okay though the hands and feet are awesome in the elite skin. But that wretched helm. It looks utterly stupid.

Questing gear was okay, I’m not hugely fussed on recent aesthetics - though Legion was top notch in that area - because I prefer the bright and colourful magitek stuff from BC. Though Cata and MoP have stuff to recommend them.

I agree with the Elf sets, so touche there.

I’m going to have to disagree with you. That whole leather set is a mess. It doesn’t work for any one. All the other sets got white feathers detailing and we got stuck with fur. The shoulders are passable but the rest is a mess. The helm is odd as are the boots and wrists. In the other sets there was a difference in the chest and legs on the regular vs the elite set but leather gets the same thing twice. Speaking of those pants, what’s with the peplum at the waist? So dumb. Also seeing that priests, mages, and locks wear a lot of tunics the the leather should have had a tunic option for the druid casters.
