Bathroom stall thoughts: New Class Rough Concept: Battle Mage

So I’ve been thinking of what a fourth plate user could be.

Mail could be Tinker, cloth could be bards or Necro, but what about plate?

I’ve seen players ask for a spell blade class but I always though Enh fit that role, until I though about it some more.

A warrior / Mage hybrid could have many possibilities.

Now I ain’t a pro with intricate class concepts but I thought of a rough idea of the specs and general flavor of what it could be.

So at it’s core, a battle mage would essentially be a melee mage in plate, using frost, fire, and arcane abilities.

But what would each spec and bow would they function? Disclaimer: I’m a huge advocate for 4th specs so I took the liberty of thinking up a 4th spec as well…

So here’s my two cents on specs

2 handed melee spec: Scorching.

This would essentially be arms with an emphasis on fire magic.

Shield tank spec: Frigid

This would be the tank spec that focuses on frost.

Dual wield spec: Frostfire

This would be the second dps spec that focuses on both fire and frost along with dual wielding 1 handers.

Now for the 4th spec…
I got to say, the reveal of Aug being a support dps has made thinking of 4th specs much easier.

Melee support dps: Prismatic

This would be your “arcane spec” that uses a one hander and and off hand weapon. Uses arcane spells to augment your allies.

Again, this was just a rough idea. I’m sure someone much more creative than me would be able to create a much more detailed concept with art and everything.

Your best battle mage is the Dracthyr. Otherwise we as mages will continue to be the iconic glass cannons.

This was not all thought and typed out literally in a bathroom stall, right?

Thats just a mage with the word battle in front of it.

Hm I like the idea of a battle mage.

Of course it was

Mages wear plate and use melee weapons in melee combat?

Evokers arent arcane melee combatants though

Enhancement Shaman are the Battle Mage archetype. They wear mail, though.

Definitely not Evokers.

Definetly recommend shamans if you want to try a battle mage. THey fit the bill in many regards. Sadly they can not use spellswords : /

Nightborne shaman though will be a close second with the heritage armor and some certain weapon mogs! Can’t wait for that. Although playing a frost dk works too.

Yeah but I’m looking for is a sepllblade archetype.

Only thing Enh has going for it is that it uses frost and fire in some of their attacks. But then you also have totemic management and don’t have access to arcane magic.

Think of it as a mage compared to an ele shaman. They’re pretty different mechanically and aesthetically.

Well same logic compared to Enh and a potential “spellblade” concept.

As I told the other poster. Enh is more like a totemic warrior.

A spell blade is more of a wizard knight I guess.

Primal magical warrior - gandalf in a suit of armor

isnt battlemage a thing with the Elder Scrolls series?

Yeah I believe so. So something similar to that.

Bard was plate class in EQ. So should be plate in WoW IMO.

I like the idea of adding more specs to existing classes to fulfill roles in tanking, healing and crowd control.

Eh idk about that. I think bards would look better in wow as a clothie.

A bard in a robe? Makes zero sense in lore terms.

Mail is about as close as it gets to cloth. It’s warrior hybrid.

Doesn’t have to be a robe…

Yeah cloth armor has many robes but there’s plenty of sets that arent. Mage ulduar for example of the current priest mog.

As a clothie I can say the amount that do exist are few and far between. I typically fall back on some old vanilla gear and a tabard if I want to go without a robe.

It doesn’t make sense that bards would be cloth.

I mean pretty much every fan concept for a wow bard class has been cloth. This is the first time someone I’ve seen who suggested plate.

Like a warrior looking guy running around with a harp seems bizarre, lol
