Basic Combat animations

In the spirit of evergreen updates and refreshes, can we get some more realistic combat animations? Spinning around with your sword on a single target every second or two is … honestly its just not cool. I feel like an absolute turd when I see it. Some abilities like bladestorm and whirlwind, obvious exceptions, but I feel like it’s a good time to use actual sword fighters and medieval fighting experts to get some updates on this aspect of the game.

You already use it for like the ohnaran plains cultural aspects, making them more ‘realistic’ and ‘accurate’, I’d love to see it with new weapon and combat animations.

I support it.

Anything to actually use that staff my casters just carry for some odd reason lol

If dainty ballerina animations while fighting aren’t appealing to you, then a male Blood Elf probably shouldn’t have been your choice.

i can’t stand how the male blood elves cast. it’s like theyre trying to lift those weighted ball things at the gym lol. looks stupid as hell. its super bad as a healer.

That’s something I should have mentioned, off-hand and staff weapons would be nice to see either a toggled use or stow option where you can actually SEE them… main/offhands in particular.

Honestly one reason I hate using them on caster is because you NEVER SEE THEM.

Yes, because when I picked the character in a war / combat game, I expected to be a dancing ballerina.

Hahaha… I hear ya!

Its a fantasy game.

Realistic combat to most people is boring because moves are subtle and unnoticed by the majority of observers, shifts in weight, application of leverage, a pivot of the foot etc. Besides most real fights are over in seconds. Its not a style that I think most people would be interested in.

Finally as you can see most sword fights are one on one. Fighting against a crowd is near impossible with some swords and with those where it is possible you need to employ broad sweeps. Its why the most effect way to fight multiple people is to force them into a choke point.

Moo!

I’ve been wanting this since foooorrreeevveerr

The way this would be done would be through animation capture and CGI. Problem is, this 2004 game based on 2000 technology is just not up to that.

Second Life came out about the same time as WoW and had the same problem. Some years later Linden Labs redesigned the entire Second Life avatar system (from “classic” to “mesh”) to support animation capture and CGI and it’s working fine.

Of course Linden Labs can afford to do that because they don’t have to worry about content. In Second Life it is the “members” (i.e. the players) who do content creation. Blizzard does not have that luxury.

They used to be far worse.

Part of the reason is because they’re blended animations. They lock the spine so the legs can keep walking and waist up can do their thing.
