In the current version of TWW beta the three main AoE spells (Seed of Corruption, Rain of Fire and Implosion) are a mandatory pick, since you can’t put more points in the talent tree without picking them. Since they are mandatory why not make them baseline spells and put another talent in their place instead?
So you want to baseline spells and then put more talents into the mathematically mandatory talent slots…?
So in essence you just want to give us twice as many baseline spells? Which would then fill our tree with low-gain passives to prevent bloat.
It’s a “flaw” to the Talent Tree system. I preferred the MoP → SL talent tree precisely for reasons like this.
i think hes onto something… if we start out OP and then get nerfed as per usual maybe we will actually be viable for a change
not twice as many baseline spells, you will just get the AoE spell for your spec for free as you level up, just like frost mages get blizzard now. And about the tree, well if you replace the AoE spell with another talent that would make it mandatory as well yes, however you can move talents around to the second row so you have a third choice, like assassination rogues for example.
Make SoC baseline but let us spec into it applying agony too.
Or when it explodes there is a 20% chance it will embed a fresh seed on its own
Exactly my point, I rather have a talent that improves an spell/ability than having to spend talent points to acquire the spell, especially when it’s something so basic as a AoE ability
In general, I agree with you, but there’s also the fact that at the end of the day, everyone gets tuned to roughly the same dps. That means that most things like the power we get from an individual talent is an illusion. The perfect illustration of this is doing a leveling dungeon and seeing the lower level players do more damage than the higher levels due to all of their power being put into just a couple of buttons. I still agree with you in this specific case, because I feel like affliction doesn’t have many talent options that change the playstyle in a meaningful way and having more of the core components of the spec be baseline would free up more talent points to be modular options.
