I recently played a mod for the grand strategy game Europa Universalis 4 that changed the setting from colonial Europe to Azeroth, and upon messing around with Stormwind, I noticed that apparently if you were to use cheats to add all of the land they have by the current date of WoW, they would be bigger than islands like Kul Tiras, Pandaria, and the Broken Isles.
This leads to my question, is the map we use for Azeroth accurate to size? Or are islands like Kul Tiras super-sized so you can spot them more easily?
I thimk someone created an actual size map at some point, but I’m pretty sure our in game map isn’t accurate.

here’s a video comparing video game maps to the size of London
Azeroth shows up at 2:42
Kalmidor and Eastern Kingdoms are huge, Northerend is huge Outlands is pretty big. Pandaria is a little smaller than Northerend, Draenor is when zones started shrinking a bit, broken isles is small, BFA zones about equal to legion zones, Shadowlands zones are about the same size but playable area is smaller. You can test this by timing your flight time.
Do not use the grand maps, they are not to scale. For example, consider the size of both draenei starting zones.
No 2D map of a 3D spherical planet is accurate.

I am not entirely sure what you are asking. Is this about the ingame map in relation to playable area? Or a how the map related to the size of the continents in the lore?
This islands are definitely super-sized. The Broken Isles are supposed to be tiny, not much more than a small collection of land in the vast oceans.
Kultiras, likewise, is much smaller than it is on the map, although it is larger than the Broken Isles.
Pandaria is also a bit smaller than it is shown, but is closer to its actually size.
The Dragon Isles are supposed to be tiny as well, like the Broken Isles, possibly even smaller.
Northrend is also supposed to be smaller than the EK and Kalimdor.

I think it’s just blown up.
Lore wise and In game don’t match. It takes weeks to get from hillsbrad to the undercity without portals. Which lorewise portals are rare.
My guess is that they are looking at the relative size of the continents and islands in world then looking to see if that same relation exists on the map.
For example if it’s 500 meters across one island and 100 across another, is the first 5 times the size of the 2nd on the map.
On this subject I’m not going to reply because it’s a repeat and long discussion .There is already a thread on this subject on scaling.gl.
