Base-UI Update Changes Could Reduce Addon Dependency

Few weeks into Midnight now and I think given WeakAuras no longer being supported players have moved to independent Addons to do what their old WeakAuras.. increasing load times, lua errors, and maintenance problems that used to not exist.

We could debate until we’re blue in the face about should the Addon changes have happened… but the fact is they did! And there were some benefits; yet, things are still not very smooth and I wanted to highlight a few changes that could reduce the amount of Addons people are using:

These things should just be base-game:

  1. A simple way (even if just a command like /way) to mark coordinates in game.
(TomTom & other coordinate addons are bulky and confuse new players without the addon but read WoWHead A LOT)

  2. A simple way to track buffs that may be missing like raid buffs & selected consumables.
(Entire raid addon-packs are downloaded just for this feature lol).

  3. More dynamic ability tracking, including trinket CD’s into the current cooldown management UI.

  4. Disable lua errors from popping up mid-screen, and instead keeping them to the chat.
(Few people can decode lua errors anyways, so they install addons like BugSack just to effectively hide mid-screen lua errors.)

  5. Include simple way to flag desired gear pieces from dungeons.
(There are probably 10+ addons that just put a little star, simulation result, or “bis” indictor on gear when it drops from dungeons and raids. Many people would opt to not use these if they could just flag an item from the dungeon journal.)

That’s all for now, probably many more very small things that if added would remove the addon bloat for players.

Thanks!
