Base sitting as a hunter

Hey all,

As a BM hunter sitting bases, am I expected to kill any opposing enemies who come my way or simply stall until help arrives? If it’s the latter, I feel weak as a BM hunter and have a hard time winning 1v1 matches. This is most likely due to my abilities at this moment but I was wondering if not killing the intruding enemies is standard for a base sitter.

To add onto that, I feel my burst/damage is much stronger as MM or survival, what are your thoughts on base sitting as a different spec? Thanks!

MM def has more knockdown power, but as BM I wear them down via kite and cc.

Sorry, back, had a queue pop.

Yeah, anyway, BM is viable, especially for D, but you need to be crafty with your kiting, trapping, feigning, intimidation, etc. You master that, and you’ll be just fine. It’s that BM requires more finesse vs the sheer knockdown of MM.

The classes coming to ninja flags from you will eat you alive as MM. You’re better off as BM or SV.

sv

psa bm requires no finesse

Not showing any enchants on you OP, may want to consider picking up more versatility where possible. Also, the PvP talents of dragonscale armor and the 10% damage reduction one from pets help your tankiness. Spirit beasts for the health buff percentage and special skills like a heal also help.

As a Hunter, if you like playing defense, I would also take camouflage. If you’re at a base and about to get overrun, going invisible and trying to stealth cap afterward to defend is probably more useful than flat out dying if alone. Litter the flag in traps also, stealthies will set off freezing/tar/explosive.

Explosive . C&S ess. Kite. Kite more. 1 on 1 if you can maintain distance you’ll never lose.

C & s? And thanks all for the responses. I think the kiting ability is something I need to work on as a base defender

If you use conflict and strife as a major essence explosive trap is free. It’s another counter to most gap closers. Explosive traps AoE in PvE is also better then advertised. A net gain in DPS for hex/cleave in survival and marksman though more situational and probably not a net gain for BM in any circumstance unless you are fighting for your life.

Very good point! Thank you. Any tips for kiting in a more confined area? The “shrine” on deep wind gorge for example, I feel I don’t have a lot of room to maneuver, just utilize traps and slowing as best I can?

While I used to duel alot, it’s been years and my theory is better then in practice. lol. Best looking up youtube for that sort of thing as it’s spec v spec. Generally if someone hits their defensive CD and it’s dodgy that you’ll score a kill you go into resource building mode when applicable and resume applying major pressure once the CD has expired.

Yeah, at Shrine put your tar trap down by one of the pillars and kite them around it as necessary is about the best you can do. There’s also a rock near the hill wall you can jump up on from behind and knock them off (assuming melee) if they follow you.

Edit: You’ll need to make your pet ‘Stay’ on the ground near the pillar or flag before you jump up on the rock or else it won’t path back down to the ground when you want it to attack.

stall

even though it might start as a 1v1, other enemies may arrive and you want to keep spinning that flag as long as you can
