Banquet of Red Roses & Banquet of Ebon Roses used to be an infinite use bag item that had the same effect of Handful of Rose Petals obtainable from the Lovely Merchant during Love is in the Air event. As of 9.1.5 it is no longer usable as such, and the “use” effect merely adds the appearance to your transmogrification collection.
Did they change it because of political reasons? Is this an oversight/bug?

It would actually seem to be a intended change which was not officially clarified or announced in any way. The effect has moved to a new item called “Pouch of Red Rose Petals” & it dropped in a normal The Necrotic Wake dungeon from the last boss Nalthor the Rimebinder.

Likely an oversight and a bug this time. They added the “Add this appearance to your collection” thing for all cosmetics, and it looks like that overwrote the original use effect.
Especially since the petals work fine still.
Instead of right clicking it to equip it, just drag it into the equipment slot. I had the same problem with a similar item and this worked for me.
Some people like rose as a “flavor” which is just confusing to me.

No it just became a cosmetic item and not one you keep.
To be fair I’ve been all about lavender coffee lately.
Dunno if I’d eat a banquet of them though.

I came to this conclusion because Handful of Rose Petals still exists, albeit it is only for a limited time event while Banquet of Red Roses itself was unlimited. There is a possibility it isn’t a oversight/bug & perhaps intentional. We must protest.
No go for this particular issue. When equipped & used from the equipment slot it will also say “You already have that appearance.”
Huh, weird. Worked for the Bronze-Tinted Sunglasses item. Definitely a bug.
