What do you consider to be the best race for a bank alt? Who starts the closest to their capital? Who’s got the nicest view from the mailbox? Personally looking for Horde but would love to know opinions on alliance as well.
Horde - Orc.
Alliance - Humans.
These starting areas are closest and a short walk away from the city.

My character and my bank alt are both NE, she will get to IF eventually (within first week)
Undead will probably the best one for Horde. Orcs and Trolls have a much longer walk from the south end of Durotar all the way to the northern end where Org is. Undead have a much shorter run due to Tirisfal being smaller and UC being horizontally centered in a west->east journey. They also have easy access to the Zeppelins if you prefer to park them in Org which is still a shorter run than having an Orc or Troll run there.

Will mail be sent immediately after an AH succeeds, or mail between players? Or will it remain on an 1hr time lag?

Isn’t it immediate for characters on your account but one hour for characters not on your account? It’s been so long, I can’t remember.
Not in classic. It an hour regardless. If I remember correctly the only thing that is instant is money back from being outbid.
I remember the AH gold lag being new i think late TBC. Not sure about player to player mail, cant remember
In classic it was 1 hour. Regardless if it was between your characters.
Orc Rogue Twink - with enchants I can beat almost any normally geared level 10 player, which is very frustrating to them. This is at level 1 too.
