If you have an addon that provides additional function in any way via a paid component the component in itself is also an addon.
I know its simpler to think about it that way but it is still incorrect per the written ToS on addons.
The addon has to be free. That’s it. A guide or WA string can be paid.
An addon to an addon is still an addon. You can try and legaleeze it if you like but the spirit of the content of a “no paid addons” is that there is to be no “PAID” anything as a 3rd party to blizzard products to provide or gain advantage.
I know this very well because I formerly worked on addons for wow, and this was discussed at length 20 years ago.
You’re trying to argue on blizzards behalf without knowing their actual stance on the subject lmfao.
They gave us the intent 20 years ago when I was developing addons, they spelled it out for us.
The only difference is now days not one enforces ToS.
I’m not sure if it’s a paid for addon, but it might be a paid for addon. Does anybody else know if this is a paid for addon?
Seems you didn’t listen to anything except what supported your view already 20 years ago.
I could put out a free addon that is just an empty container and then charge for code strings and be perfectly within the ToS.
(people do this and it is allowed btw)
Irrelevant. Rules as written overrides intent pretty much everywhere.
Wrong.
Thank God in 20 years nothing could possibly change.
What are you even arguing about? Who cares lmfao.
Don’t use restedXP lmfao
I’m bored and someone was wrong on the internet is my excuse. Forum posting is just a PVP game mode anyway.
Easy and simple as
Wrong:
Both “guides” and WA strings are services that modify the API. They have to be free.
“services related to the addon”…it’s pretty clear, which is why people are ignoring the ToS I linked throughout this thread.
Every single paywall WA, like Fojji, are also violations of ToS. They clearly charge for “premium” content that modifies the API. Blizz just doesn’t equally enforce their ToS…but they should.
Don’t use them.
Thanks for the bumps, very insightful.
Thread was gonna die, then you decide to bump it yourself.
Just let the thread die, it’s not against ToS.
It’s posted in this thread, actually. Paid add ons are not allowed. It’s a pretty broad policy.
I’m sure it’s way more in depth than that.
Blizzard has shut down add-ons before, you think restedXP lasted this long just because?
It’s not /10char:
I’m sure there is much more than what’s outlined in that little paragraph.
Hence why they ban other add-ons but havent touched Restedxp.
Also, just don’t use it? Who cares.
Just in case you cant read:
You should use restedXP for all your leveling needs.
Just in case you forgot the addon existed.
Oh wait it’s living rent free in your head atm.
That’s cool and all, but have you considered:
