Gearscore wasn’t a big deal, because I was able to use LFD to gear up in heroics. That got me geared enough to get invited to pug raid groups.
Your leap of logic to practically forced is ridiculous.
Our guild and many other guilds on my server are still taking new people and letting them get into older catch up content we still run.
We have multiple Kara runs, ZA runs, we still do either KT or sometimes SSC, MH runs.
Anyone trying to get geared up this close to the Wrath launch should probably be smart enough to know they aren’t getting full T6 for going into Wrath.
But they can get enough gear to have a better start in Wrath.
If you get rid of all GDKP’s, nothing I typed above would change.
The people running GDKP’s to make gold wouldn’t suddenly become available for new players or people gearing an alt to run with to gear up in old content.
And in a later post you said you can’t raid casually without great effort.
My guild is very casual. I sign up to raid and surprise I raid every week.
Such effort.
I didn’t say it didn’t have good qualities. I don’t know if I’d say it’s more fair than rolling (or normal DKP for that matter), but I’ve stated earlier in this thread that the incentive it gives for players to stick around to the end of the run is a very compelling quality!
Just because it has good qualities though doesn’t mean it doesn’t have bad ones either.
Which again, brings me back to the question of whether or not it’s good for the game to have player interaction be entirely financially motivated?
Yes plz. GDKP is lame. Sry.
GDKPs are more comparable to guild environment than any other pug format out there. Basically the same roster everytime, every week on a set schedule. Thats better player interaction than randomly getting into a group on a thursday with 3 people leaving after every boss because it didnt drop what they wanted
Oh and that dude whos doing 300dps that rolled a 100 and you rolled a 6? Hes the only one leaving satisfied.
But it’s interaction that is entirely financially motivated. You either pay for it, or you expect to get paid.
Is that a good thing?
You did not get invited to raids where the gear is 232 ilvl with 180 ilvl dungeon blues lmao
It is. Otherwise I wouldnt be interacting with you at all
Is it better to have a loot system that breeds animosity or one where both parties come out satisfied?
That is your opinion and I thank you for sharing it. I’m not sure I agree, but I’m still working through it.
I don’t think GDKP is the problem, its all the massive ‘ill-gotten’ wealth from questionable sources thats the problem.
Free roll and sr runs will make a comeback for the beginning phases of wrath.
It’s just that these players get bored eventually and stop playing and all that’s left by phase 5 is gdkp players who play the raids more than everyone.
Week 2 phase 1 you will have GDKPs guarenteed. More than you will have ms>os, free roll or SR
I didn’t say it was, but that also doesn’t make GDKP the best choice. The negatives of traditional loot systems is, as you say, losing out on an item without getting anything for your time. The negatives of GDKP is enhanced pressure to purchase gold just to be able to play with other players.
I mean, extend this concept to your real life and consider the implications.
Of course we will. I will have one of my guys in one.
I thought you were talking about the poster.
I mean, its a PUG, Im not there to hang out with you.
Yeah, but you’ll also have the tourists that think “WotLK is the best expac evar!!!” and then leave before Ulduar even releases.
I know, you’re there for yourself and you’re not willing to engage with anybody else any more than you have to. I might be inclined to question why you have chosen this particular game to pursue, but it’s probably not a worthwhile endeavour.
I’m not here to question you personally. I’m here to question what may, or may not be good for the overall game and its community.
Yeah nearly every wrath pserver sees a massive drop in interest about midway through ulduar. Dungeon groups become pretty sparse by TotC
