Ban boosting

Helping someone out of kindness makes the game better. Boosting is predatory and degenerate. It spurs illegal boosts, rmt, scamming, and a culture of only playing with people to be paid. Just get rid of it

While I agree it is predatory and all, they aren’t going to go away. That’s the sad truth of it.

Yup. This has been around since forever. I can’t see them having the resources or ability to weed it out now. Nor would it sit well with the whales and providers, so they’d lose a significant audience by trying to eradicate it.

Don’t presume to dictate how people play the game or how they spend their gold.

By the way I don’t agree with boosting and have never paid for such.

I would agree with it being predatory if people were out spending their government paychecks , just to get a mythic run. But that I would also call that person stupid

I saw a lot of people upgrade their TVs with that check. But it was also a pandemic and they were stuck at home with very little to do. So I’m torn about the wisdom of their investment.

I’ll come out and say they were stupid even if they’re happy with it.

I’m 50/50. Food is important, but if you know you’re homebound and you have to entertain your family with TV and movies so they don’t kill one another. A popcorn maker and a good TV almost seems wise.

But. I don’t have kids. So to me it seems dumb, but I dunno. Fence issue.

There are rules around certain boosting. Like cross realm organisations selling services. When you see those low level alts selling runs, that’s what they are. Report them.

You know blizzard employees boost right?

The Actual F? That comparison is ignorant

I mean a lot of low level alts will post a look for high level people group in group finder. Which is a grey area. They’re not particularly engaging in part of the boost on one toon, but might switch characters and provide part of the boost on a main. They thus intend on participating in gameplay activities.

Disclosure, I have no idea how they monitor or regulate all of that. I’m just saying it can be grey and they may or may not get penalized for advertising only on a lowbie.

That’s how you know they’re part of a boosting organisation. If it was simply someone selling a run with their guild they’d just post it on their character and there’d be no problem. There’s no reason to be surreptitious about it, unless they know they’re breaking the rules.

Maybe. I can’t say people with low level characters aren’t trying a new server. I just dunno what I dunno. Can I suspect it’s advert only; sure? Can I factually prove otherwise? It’s a little hard, unless I track said player for 3 months and they haven’t gained even a level.

I’m here to tell you, that’s not why they use low level alts to advertise. They do that because of people like you reporting them on their mains, and then they get auto silenced even though they’re advertising in the right channel.

So they buy alternate accounts to advertise on.

I don’t report any that look legit. A max level toon advertising a run with a guild that that toon is in, all good. Clearly legit. They’re putting the reputation of their character and their guild on the line. However the same spammy advertisement from multiple low level alts not in any guild, and on different servers. That sets off the alarm bells.

Now that cross server trading works. It is easy to create a low level toon on a server you don’t have any on to advertise there or sell things on ah there. I would never level that kind of character myself.

Ban boosting. I agree. I also keep seeing botters still doing the follow each other and grab the herbs. I thought Blizz was banning those people?

Why do you care if they’re not in a guild? I understand the rule, but why do you personally care? The gold going to a guild doing the same exact thing somehow makes it better?

Only way to convince people to stop offering boosts is to completely get rid of demand for boosts.

If enough people want to buy, someone will find a way to sell.
