this will probably be ignored but worth trying but with tbc being released (or sooner) is there something that can be done about how cloth + healing is equally available to all healers? what is happening due to all this bis talk is all healers can equally roll on gear meant for priests because it’s cloth and priests can’t roll on other gear because they can only wear cloth so it is a very unfair system, maybe have increases to leather and plate + healing to stop the practice or maybe only paladins can wear plate, druids leather, etc? (this is in regards to classic)
That would be a developmental question and you will want to post on General discussion as the devs don’t really frequent the support forums for player feedback
Seconding that the people who would need to see this do not frequent this particular forum, but this is just how it was back then. Sometimes the best piece would be a cloth piece for a Druid or a Shaman or a holy Paladin - or even a Hunter. It is part of that ‘Classic’ experience and I am pretty sure that would fall under that ‘Working As Intended’ umbrella.
There were never restrictions on limiting an armor class to only that particular class. Of course the heavier duty classes could always use everything up to and including their own. Warriors and Paladins couldn’t even use plate until level 40. Shaman and Hunters were stuck in the same boat for Mail. So while you’re certainly welcome to suggest this in the proper forum, I would warn you that it is very unlikely you will see this changed for what you consider to be balancing when this is just the way it always has been. Classic is Classic for a reason, for better and for worse.
it used to be priority for cloth users on cloth in the original game
I don’t recall that being built into the game itself, but I am not infallible. Either way, you are still suggesting that something that has always been the case from the time of inception be changed. Tier gear or the odd random pieces that are class specific is one thing, but otherwise if it can be equipped, it is free game. It’s always been like that.
To be honest, as a priest healer in classic I got geared pretty quick. I didn’t have to wait for anything but rings and trinkets. It did take a while to get certain pieces I wanted like hands and legs that were not part of a set but most everything is easily attainable if you attend weekly raids.
It was not a priority in vanilla for cloth wearers to get cloth it was a priority for whoever in the raid needed the gear the most. Your main healers would get priority over someone who skipped raids every week and most times it would go to who had worse gear than some of the other healers. But it depended on the loot system that was in place too.
Does anyone feel like they go back in time with Classic release. What you describe was exactly the same as years ago.
Until Armor Skills was added in to the game. Many people complained about the same thing back then. That’s why it ultimately got added in to the game.
Unfortunately, as a cloth wearer… that’s the straw you draw when it comes to gear. Cloth only. While I may not agree with it - that’s the way the game is and was.
A lot of these concerns were addressed over time, and this was one of them. I expect to see a lot more threads like this over things that have been addressed in the retail game.
Not the answer you wanted, just my opinion.
Not until at least Wrath. And it still didn’t apply to Classic gear. At the time it only applied to TBC and later gear as that was when gear started to be made for classes. Any restrictions on Classic gear was a later restriction.
You have to wait until Cataclysm for their to be reasons to only wear your preferred Armor Type.
But this issue is mostly alleviated with every spec and class getting appropriately itemized tier sets starting in TBC. You’ll still have wrist/belt/boot slots that will be sought after non-clothies, but better than all your slots right now.
Chin up.
