Balancing 144 different playstyles

League of Legends has 148 champions. It isn’t balanced either, you’re never going to get perfect balance because the way to achieve that is to make everyone the same.

Then we can just act like those skeletons in that troll dungeon. We each get attack, heal and taunt. Perfect balance!

I think you missed the forest for the threes. Out of 144 permutations, even if one is the very very best, it’ll probably be by such a neglible margin most other permutations are nearly identical to it.

I don’t think anyone is gonna sweat over a .0000001% advantage unless they’re obsessed.

At least you can ban some.

Imagine if you could ban people in wow lol.

Let me know when they stick to their calculations on balance without making changes due to the community to let me know I am wrong.

Of course, they have the final say on everything in game but they have to rely on the community for balance problems. Obviously, their limited calculations and testing don’t work.

I’d ban Gnomes.

Unless they do stuff for me. Like go mine and herb for me.

Exactly. In an ideal world the gap between the best dps and worst wpuld be around 5%.

Also stoked to see people picking up something I’ve been saying for over a week now (144 SPECS to balance)

Are you saying classes have had everything change every patch every expansion?

They rely on the community for feedback on how things can be “better” balanced, not on how much and what to change unless something is egregious.

But who will make your jumper cables!?

Wrong, they review raid logs to figure out balance problems.

Not sure what you are asking about here. Either way classes change too much each expansion for my taste.

According to their parameters…not the communities.

You implied they change everything and nothing stays the same for entire expansions. Some classes/specs have absolutely gone entire expansions in “unbalanced” state according to the communities feedback, yet the one who decides disagree’s and let’s it stay the way it is.

The community generates the numbers. Not sure why you can’t admit Blizzard can’t tune the game without the community. Even then it still isn’t tuned correctly.

If blizzard wants balance then they should hire back the people that balanced MOP (I didn’t play MOP but from what I read it seems too good to be true in terms of balance)

According to you. That is the point.

Because they already tune the game without the community when they start with something. It’s a ballpark, now we can agree that the community helps find outliers and helps them square in, but what i am getting at is that the “opinion” of balance is all left to Blizzard, not any individual feedback. It is why Shamans have been low tier for so many expansions despite feedback of how unbalanced they are. Shadow priests too have suffered. Of course as the game grows in classes/specs “balance” of course becomes harder but is still now and always has been a moving target of relativism.

At the end of the day there is no “tuned correctly” there is tuned within acceptable parameters. The game changes far to much in far to short a time to lock anything down in what most people would deem a “balanced” position. Doesn’t mean it’s not balanced according to Blizzards liking meeting their in house parameters based on testing both in house and outside (by the community).

Let me know when you find people that think the game is correctly balanced.

Yeah, based off their ideal calculations which don’t work as proven time after time.

Unfortunately this doesn’t work with the players.

Lets not act dumb on purpose here…

They create bad systems that cause balance issues not players.

Some FOTM players will tell you they like how the game is balanced, but that is not the point. Saying “correctly balanced” means nothing, Blizzard thinks it is correctly/properly balanced in whatever form it is on live that is why they put it on live. Opinions are like buttholes everyone has one and they all stink but the game has to have some grounding to work, Blizzard makes the hard call based on their metrics when the game is in the spot of balanced as it is in being a moving target.

It’s not supposed to “work” other then to get them in the ballpark. Even after the community feedback and all of the time put in, people complain about “balance” because they think of balance as equivalence…that is not what balance means. Balance is performance of the classes and the classes perform the way Blizzard makes them perform (good or bad or ugly) in whatever content is being looked at. Not just raid logs, there are vastly more things to be looked at to see if something in particular is broken.

Not true, if it didn’t work with the players, the game wouldn’t have players. Those that play accept the reality whether they like it or not. Whether they complain or not.

Yes and they are doing a bad job!

They never get it in the ballpark.

No, kidding but it is all community generated.

I guess you didn’t notice the sub rate is dropping even though they don’t disclose it I can tell on my currently connected realms.

Sure people tough it and and do only they things they love to do.

Anyway, have a good one friend. I have to run!

Define a good job. Then we can discuss whether it is bad or not.

Oh they most certainly do. It is their pre-defined ballpark, not anyone else’s.

Not all, but i get your point.

This is something that has gone on for almost the entirety of the games history. It ebbs and flows, sometimes it ebbs more, sometimes it flows more. But there are still players here and they don’t solely leave because the game isn’t “balanced” although i will admit that some do quit when things change. Change is always hard for some folks.

I would hardly call it “toughing it out”…after all they are PLAYING A GAME. It’s not like they are doing something that is hard, it is entertainment that they can freely change at any time.

Late my dude, good talk, have a good one. Stay safe.

Balance is irrelevant for anyone else. If you don’t care which is best, play what you like. What difference does it make that you take slightly longer whole putzing around the open world?

What ARPG is this disaster?
