Balanced Stat Priority

Blizzard has chased a long-standing philosophy which aims to let players build towards whatever stats they want without it affecting their performance. While finding balance between different classes is an entirely separate mattered, this post will focus on finding class specs which do the best job at finding this “golden balance”. Stat priorities according to Noxxic.com:

  • Beastmaster Hunter: Agility (7.56) > Crit (6.16) >= Haste (6.06) >= Versatility (6.02) >= Mastery (5.96)
  • Marksman Hunter: Versatility (6.1) >= Mastery (6.04) >= Crit (5.93) > Haste (5.51) > Agility (5.01)
  • Survival Hunter: Agility (7.54) > Haste (6.04) > Crit (4.54) >= Versatility (4.45) > Mastery (3.0)

Beastmaster is the obvious winner here (and is currently the most balanced that I could find among all the classes in their respective roles). Granted, the stat weights are going to vary somewhat based on your talent and play style choices, but Noxxic tries to narrow it down to “the simulated best” (though icy-veins is going to be a better site for finding genuine play strategies).

Other notably “balanced” classes:

  • Restoration Druid: Mastery (6.82) >= Haste (6.59) >= Crit (6.48) >= Versatility (6.41) >= Intellect (6.3)
  • Havoc Demon Hunter: Agility (7.58) > Versatility (7.17) > Crit (6.73) >= Haste (6.66) > Mastery (6.21)
  • Frost Mage: Intellect (7.55) > Crit (7.0) > Versatility (6.53) >= Haste (6.49) > Mastery (6.02)

No other classes (that I could find) even came close to a “balanced” stat priority. Some were even particularly egregious:

  • Windwalker Monk: Agility (7.57) > Versatility (6.07) > Mastery (4.57) >= Crit (4.3) > Haste (1.57)
  • Protection Paladin: Stamina (9.07) > Strength (7.57) > Haste (6.07) > Mastery (4.57) >= Versatility (4.27) > Crit (1.57)
  • Vengeance Demon Hunter: Stamina (9.05) > Agility (7.55) > Haste (6.05) > Versatility (4.55) > Mastery (3.05) > Crit (1.55)

Uh… what are you on about?

I can’t talk for classes/specs that I don’t play, but BM Hunters have a very skewed stat priority towards crit, because the meta build relies on stacking crit to proc dance of death and wild call, which means that crit synergizes so it doesn’t have diminishing returns. The more crit you have the more value crit gets. The numbers you posted here are totally wrong. They look super outdated since Agi is so high; those are probably from when BfA launched.

For reference, my current stat weights: Crit (10.45) > Haste (8.86) > Vers (7.67) > Mastery (6.53) > Agi (3.68)

And before you claim that I’m using some specific set of traits/talents that skew the numbers, the crit build is the strongest by far. Go to warcraftlogs and see how absolutely all of the high-parsing Hunters are using that build.

You can skew the stat weights even more with some corruption effects (which is why my Haste is a bit higher than it should), but that obviously doesn’t help make them balanced.
