I appreciate the genuine conversation. I started maining a Pally at the start or Wrath (came in as a Hunter) and eventually swapped to BDK for the whole expac. I love pally a lot, and have 3. Earthen Prot (Alliance NA), Belf Prot (NA), and human prot (EU). I prefer how my Druid plays, but I find myself bringing the pally so my friends group doesn’t struggle. At the end of the day, I may not have discovered the way to balance tanks, but likely uncovered the reason as to why specs can’t actually be balanced.
Another 9696-rota lover!
I didn’t even know people would remember this! That takes me back!
It can’t.
Content that scales “infinitely” arrives at a single point for tanks. Whether they can live or die. You cant have a meta tank sac survival for dps. Since eventually survival outweighs dps.
Did you just compare a ranged multi target hitting ability to a single target melee ability? Like how can anybody read anything you type after that.
Maybe they meant for avengers shield to be SotR?
Because some people like to have a real conversation, express where the poster was inaccurate and offer their honest opinion. They aren’t just one of those people who pops in, makes some snarky comment, and has no original thoughts of their own.
Part of your starting argument is not ground anywhere in reality. “That’s like saying well I was talking about burgers when I said vaccines cause autism.” But in your case it’s even worse cause it’s directly related to your argument.
Every tank can perform like a paladin in all but the highest niches of content, and even then nothing is being exclusively withheld from them. The problem of inclusion comes down to players perception of logs.
As others have said, if you make every toolkit the same people will be annoyed. Some people like more complex rotations, some like less complex rotations. Some people are tied to a class, some will never deviate from that class. There is no situation in which you will make every player happy. As it stands now there is literally no content that is being gatekept from any one class, it’s not like if you’re a blood DK and you try to go into a +12 the game just goes “nope you can’t play”. What does happen is a bunch of people who probably theorycraft more time than they spend in game make groups and go “oh this one chart I saw while on the toilet says I can’t bring you”.
The honest feedback is despite all the balance issues if you have a group of people you like to play the game with, you’re not going to be excluded cause you’re maybe 3-7% lower than someone in a flavor of the month. The problem with the game balance is players, not the actual numbers.
I’ll be sure to share that with the BM tanks and let them know they are just bad and there is nothing wrong with their class. Thanks for the extended discussion though. Nice to have honest feedback and not just 2 lines of snark.
Oh you mean rather than play with them you’re going to just call them bad? I’m shocked. Kinda interesting, wish someone had addressed that. Can you elaborate on anything where BM tanks just die instantly versus other classes? I’m really curious of the spells that have the logic of “If BM Tank=True, instantly kill”.
Oh, I play with them all the time. I support BM tanks with my mage, and they support my Paladin with their hunter. But hey, a cursory glance at the Monk and GD forum will show plenty of BMs calling for help with their class. Some of them have mained a monk tank since MoP. If one or two people complain, I could see it being the player. But when hundreds are talking about it, there may actually be a spec issue.
You say stuff like this while pretending you want an honest discussion.
Might want to see if Netflix can sign you for a stand-up special.
What if they just get rid of the tank role altogether? Instead, every time someone pulls threat, they become the de-facto “tank” and they have to survive/evade until a new person can draw threat.
No.
Noooooo.
Huh?
Mmm. I’ll push back on your sub rogue vs feral druid comparison somewhat. Why? Fetal druid does most of it’s damage through DoTs in one of their hero talents. I personally think it’d be more apt to compete feral druid with assassination rogue that also uses a lot of bleeds and dots.
But yes, overall, the classes should all be balanced. Should they ask have the same utility? No. I’m fine with some classes doing slightly more for lack of utility. Slightly being the word of choice on purpose.
Classes that deal direct damage should be roughly similar numbers wise, base line. Same for DoT classes. Healers all have their identity, and should be at the same power level wise. They have their own unique healing styles. Tanks are where the most issues are. Half are good, but the other half get a side eye. They can all compete content, but pugs will certainly be picky and choose what they’ve heard is the best, or flavor of the month. Blizzard does nothing to encourage you to use any tank that meets your ilvl requirements. Clearly “bring the player” has been abandoned in favor of flavor of the month - heck sometimes it’s flavor of the week.
What I’m advocating for is number balancing. Just make it so each spec has its specialty at what it does.
Sounds like what that did in the beginning of cata with healers. Gave them all a fast expensive heal and a slow mana efficient heal plus reduced mana regeneration. It was universally panned.
It’s called sarcasm. I was unaware it was against the forum’s code of conduct.
Huh, irony and hypocrisy in the same post. Go figure
I mean, even in SWTOR where any 4 specs can queue, they still give you an AI tank bot. The whole purpose of a tank is to soak damage and keep mobs / boss distracted. Without a tank, some DPS just melt to the floor while others burst into a killing machine. Not sure there is a right answer.
Balance?
Nah.
I just want them to actually finish designing all the specs. Certainly before they add new specs or classes.
Many specs are just unfinished.
