Starting some mythic plus and raids and am finding that Balance Druid is quite squishy and i’ve died a few times to rot damage that was outside of my control.
Is balance just a squish class? Used to mage with double shields.

Yes, it’s probably actually the squishiest spec in the game:/ Very unfun in that regard.
Dang, its a fun class otherwise. Love my dotty trees.
Balance druid players have been on here since TWW released asking for survivability buffs. Here’s the issue. Blizzard keeps buffing our damage with almost every patch just like demon hunters. Because of this, the moment they give us the ability to survive, both DH and Boomie will become “broken”, and blizzard will have to scramble to nurf damage. Its going to create a cycle of unhappy players.
Also, Treants, once upon a time, use to be way better. Go look up how they were back in MoP.
Honestly feels great having them moonfire everything for me instead of tabbing so much like Dragonflight.
My friend, they use to be on a 30 sec CD, 3 charges, rooted the target and blasted them with wrath. Great for PvE and PvP.
I want this back so bad.
Balance feels great when you pop a few cooldowns and wreck stuff.
I would love to be able to roll the treants like we use to be able to. 1 at a time to balance our dps window. Right now in delves its 10 seconds of awesomeness and then 45 seconds of waiting, or something close.
I also really feel Blizz needs to go back on their armor gutting of balance they did a while back. It used to be a tanky spec. Their movement sucks compared to Feral, but they used to be able to take a hit. Not much anymore.
Moonkin Form used to provide a universal damage reduction of 15% as well as a substantial armor bonus. Ever since that was removed, we’ve been pretty squishy. If we had some active spell like the armor spells from the mage or a passive ward/regeneration (like warlocks have), we’d be less of a paper spec. I feel like we need some sort of damage reduction beyond Barkskin. Maybe we could get a second charge of Barkskin or some sort of mage armor analogue. If I were the developers, I would take the old Cenarion Ward talent and turn it into an absorb shield that casts an empowered Regrowth on the druid when the absorb shield is used up. I would also add a talent to increase self-healing from Regrowth by 30% since it heals for almost nothing at the moment.
I posted this in response to someone saying we needed a CD with ridiculous amount of absorption. But it might do the trick. I’m pasting what I put as to not retype it all:
Shaman have Stone Bulwark Totem that is a 1.9 mil shield on a 2.9 min CD.
So lets math this out. Due to Barkskin having a passive that increases the healing we take by 20%, and saying that the CD of Barkskin is the same as Stone Bulwark, I think it would be fair to say the shield it makes is 1.5 mill. Devide that by 3 with Barkskin being a 1 min CD, we should at least have the shield be 500,000.
Now say they look at it a different way, Rather than a flat 500k shield with hitting Barkskin, Blizzard could make Matted Fur a passive that gives us a shield that gives us a shield every 30 seconds for 250k stacking twice. If this is still too strong, then make it a shield that absorbs 125k every 15 - 20 seconds, stacking up to 4 times.
Something along these lines would help a good amount, yet still not be broken. However, Feral does not need such power, having Survival Instincts and the ability to heal after spending combo points. A talent like this should be for Resto and Balance only.
Definitely merge some talent nodes in our spec tree for this defensive ability. Would hate it to be tied to hero talents as that would make one waaay better than the other defensively.
I like the 250k shield stacking or the reversion of armour/DR to its previous levels as its strong, but not insanely strong since every class has a lot of defensives now.
I was thinking a variation on the mage shields (Ice Barrier, Prismatic Barrier, and Flame Barrier). Our absorb shield would be one that adds a Regrowth when popped to include druid flavor. I love Balance and would prefer to survive combat. Switching to bear form is Blizzard’s usual answer to why they won’t give us defensives, but we can’t cast our spells in bear form.
Could make druid flavored by having the button itself switch us into bear form, adding [15% DR/Armour] / [Shield] for X seconds. Then switch us back by having [Moonfire/sunfire/whatever] switch us back into balance, keeping the buff, but not making us stay in guardian for the duration, kinda like fluid forms.
or even “You roar, activating Guardian Form and channeling Ursocs might for 1/0.5 second before returning to your previous form. Gain 15% HP shield every 15 seconds for 30 seconds.”
I feel a shield or DR would be more helpful than a straight regrowth as one shots in higher keys would be the make/break point for a lot of sweats.
