Balance druid rotation question

Hello druids. I’ve just hit 60 on my boomkin and have been reading guides on icy veins and wowhead about single target rotation. To my understanding, I’m supposed to pool 90 astral power to then dump when I start a new eclipse rinse and repeat. However, I often find myself in situations where I enter eclipse below 90 power. One example, maybe I’m inbetween pulls and only have 50.

What’s the best course of action? Just pool to 90 again and squeeze in the last few wrath’s or starsurges at the end? Or just dump only 2 startsurges? Thanks.

Priority is to get into, and be in an Eclipse state ASAP and as much as possible. So your course of action would be to enter eclipse at your 50AP, fire off your SS and go about your rotation.

The pooling 90 AP is more or less for when you’re transitioning between eclipse states in a fight. That way you can buff the new eclipse ASAP for maximum damage/AP gain

To add something to Griz’s explanation, the pooling of AP, if it can’t be achieved easily, needs to be prioritized to buff the eclipse that best performs with the pack. What I mean is if you’re in a heavy aoe fight, maybe pooling AP for solar eclipse isn’t super necessary. You’d rather ensure you pool for lunar in that circumstance since it’ll give you more benefit. Now if you’re running balance of all things legendary, you’ll want to pool every time.

There actually a lot of nuance but ultimately in the situation you described, Griz summed it up nicely. Just enter an eclipse ASAP, dump as many SS as you can and continue on with the fight.

What type of content are you doing? what legos do you have/plan on getting?

Pooling matter a lot more for raiders wearing BoaT vice in a dungeon with Pulsar.

Thanks for the responses. I just hit 60 yesterday so right now I’m grinding dungeons and such and close to getting into heroics. From there I plan on doing mythic + and raiding. Don’t have any legendaries yet.

You definitely want to go get the BoaT lego memory out of torgast before reset or you wont see it for a month.

Pooling AP is also good in general because it buffs your builder in your Eclipse.

For a basic example, you have 3 seconds left in Lunar Eclipse and 60 AP. You should save your AP for Starsurge for when you enter Solar Eclipse so you can buff up the eclipse bonus damage for your Wrath’s. If you use Starsurge in Lunar Eclipse shortly before it expires, you won’t be able to benefit from the extra eclipse bonus because it will be ending seconds later.

For situations you need Starfall though, I believe you want to maintain 100% uptime so you can cast it whenever you’re in an Eclipse regardless of the remaining duration.

Why is that? Are they cycling bosses or something?

Yeah, Torghast rotates “wings” every week

on single target I always dump AP at the start of any eclipse, regardless of whether it’s one, two, or three starsurges… but thats because I use the ‘Balance of all things’ lego and I want to pack all my starsurges into the first several seconds of an eclipse.

Thanks for the heads up I was able to snag it just now
