Been playing around with Balance on the PTR and have a suggestion:
The current forced alternation of the eclipses feels limited and non-sensical.
Instead, what if you cast two wraths, you start a solar eclipse and buff solar wrath. If at anytime you cast two starfires, you then activate lunar eclipse, regardless of the remaining duration of the solar eclipse.
Or you start a solar eclipse as mentioned and it ends so you want to continue with single target, so you do it again with two more ramping wraths. Again, you can change anytime with starfire and repeat a lunar eclipse back to back if you want.
You still have to ramp up by casting two but you can always choose.
I think this would help a lot by making it based on your ability to react, your own choice and style, and the need for aoe or ST. Further to that, it would work better in pvp as well because if they lock you out, you can switch immediately and not be punished for being “stuck” in the currently locked school of the currently active eclipse.
Just a thought, Blizz. Generally otherwise like the feel of other changes like starfall and shooting stars.
A great way for Eclipse to have worked, imo, would be for Solar Eclipse to change Wrath and Starfire in different but basically equal ways. Example:
Solar Eclipse:
Wrath applies a stacking dot to your target and all mobs within 8 yds
Every Starfire cast lowers Starfires cast time by .x seconds
Lunar Eclipse:
Wrath’s critical strike is increased by x%
Starfire direct damage is increased by x%
Then they could have redesigned the Mastery bonuses to Eclipse to suit
If designed correctly it could easily have made each Eclipse equal for single target and AoE and cycling through Eclipses wouldn’t be a problem for single target or AoE
Does anyone actually like the revamped eclipse system? I’m not sure who blizz is doing this change for. I like how easy balance is currently as an off spec, and I feel like empowerments are very inoffensive. I’m worried I’ll hate eclipse and have to move my questing spec to guardian. (Feels so slow)
Nice idea and then our mastery could be more interesting like other specs (eg fire mages or arms warriors).
I don’t mind it if some changes are done to it like Anastasia mentioned. The current empowerments system could also be fine along with some of the other SL changes so far to starfall and shooting stars, albeit a bit lackluster - or inoffensive system - as you mentioned. Would also LOVE to see full moon do something more impactful.
They’re doing it because Fun Detected. We all loved balance the last 4 years, at least most of us seemed to. So they had to go and ruin it <3 because why not.
