Help me understand the priority here. With 1 Arcanic Pulsar and 2 Streaking Stars - should I only be casting Starfall at 6+ targets?
I’m pulling these numbers from the Icy Veins guide.
You get more DPS out of Starsurge + Empowerment spells than you do with Starfall.
Is this universal, regardless of the number of Streaking Stars traits and mob count?
I’m assuming you are asking about aoe packs in dungeons.
General philosophy on boomkin aoe: sunfire and moonfire on every target, fury of elune, and then use your empowerments from starsurge.
You usually only want to drop starfall when you have at least 8 or more targets, AND you know that they will be in the zone for the entirety of your starfall.
If you cannot fulfill these requirements you are better served to just tunnel starsurges in a priority or high hp target because starsurge hits really hard, buffs solar wrath and lunar strike, and starfall is incredibly undertuned.

Pretty universal. Unless mobs are going to last through the entire duration of Starfall (even so), it’s very weak.
But I believe the ivy veins guide is referring to using Starfall on 6+ targets (assuming they’ll live for the duration) in the event that you won’t be using your Arcanic Pulsar proc.
Starsurge + Empowered Lunar + Starsurge = more damage than an entirety of Starfall on 6+ mobs
Unless you’re literally pulling entire rooms and nothing will die before Starfall expires, it’s probably a DPS loss. It hasn’t really seen much use this xpac outside of Reaping.
There are times in higher fort keys where the mobs actually live for a long time. Even then I almost never use starfall.

I use it but boot that often and it’s usually even there are at least 5 or 6 adds to deal with. Sometimes after I’ve got moonfire and sunfire on everything I’ll throw Starfall in conjunction with Fury of Elune and use lunar strike once or twice keep hitting everything.
I use starfall on raid trash when I’m using my other hand to eat dinner and don’t have my eyes on my rotation.
That’s about the only legit use I can think of.

I just want to go out on a limb and call myself a hypocrite. I used Starfall today. KR. Mini boss room. On the pack that has 6 and drops the poison globs everywhere on you.
Kept being targeted so couldn’t use Solar or Lunar, so I dropped Starfall and spammed Moonfire and Sunfire until I got a chance to actually cast a spell. I’m so ashamed. I’m starting a support group if anyone wants to join me

Coming from Ele Shaman I wish Starfall felt as good to use as Earthquake does.

It technically feels great cuz you see all these big numbers flying all over your screen, but then you notice they’re actually small numbers crammed together. Feels bad.
