In the Nokhud Offensive, the boss Balakar Khan’s “Static Spear” attack will sometimes hit the person the spear is being thrown at twice, which is a guaranteed death in 17+ mythics on Tyrannical week (First tick hits for 164k~ and the second hits for 111k~, total of 275k~).
Our group has experienced this multiple times this week. Even with personal defensives used at full health, it will still one shot most players. If this double tick of damage is intentional, the damage on the person being targeted needs to be nerfed.

I have also been getting this. On several runs I’ve had to save Karma to have the DR to get through it on +17 runs.

Happened to my group over and over in an NO today and bricked the key, I don’t see how it could be intentional.
Do you have a screenshot of your death recap or details death log, or a warcraftlog link that shows the spear damage did, in-fact, tick twice? Could be dying to an overlap or something else and not realizing it.

You can see our healer “Drakkd” takes two hits: the direct hit, and then the hit from being pulled by the spear which the rest of the party takes. The damage shown is with Obsidian Scales active; total would be around 350k unmitigated.
Just did a 20 Nokhud. Can confirm this is still broken.
Eranog’s Lava Flow does this as well, and so does the fire dragon world boss. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s something wrong with fire on the ground in general.
Also, there was some chatter in my guild that the spear does this when you’re moving. Movement doesn’t matter; it hit me twice when I was moving and when I was stationary.

I shouldn’t be getting one shot through DR because of a bug
It’s happened twice to me so far, For priest I’d suggest spec-ing into “Translucent Image” and one point into “Improved Fade”, this will insure that it Fade will be up every static spear (incase you get it two times in a row) and will let you survive cause of the 10% damage reduction.
This has been a consistent bug for a while (Or overtuned ability?) and will often brick high keys.
Just happen to our group in a +19. Fun! Everyone but tank ended up dead, every single one double tapped.

Just had this happen to me in a 18 nok then got flamed by the tank for making mistakes when I clearly went from 100-0. On the next attempt lived but only because of bear. Make playing healer make sense.

Is this a fix for the bug? From the January 23 hotfix notes:
" Balakar Khan’s Static Spear prefers not to target the same player for subsequent casts.
Balakar Khan’s Static Spear area of effect damage reduced by 30%."
It looks like the approach they’ve chosen to take is to leave the current behavior in place and reduce the damage the pull component does. So the group (all 5 members) will still take that reduced damage, and additionally the target takes direct damage.
This raises the key threshold for Static Spear one-shots (unmitigated) from ~18 tyrannical to ~21 tyrannical. Still a silly thing to exist at that high of a level, but the “no repeat targeting” component should allow everyone to have a personal for it.
just got one-shot by it on a 20 - it’s still double-tapping. Again, not sure if intended, but lesson learned…use a big defensive…
Just bricked a 20 NO with this issue. It picked off each player one by one, even with a defensive up, it was hitting twice immediately. One tick for 200K+ and the other tick for 100K+. The only person who survived it was the healer druid in bear form.

Just got hit by this skill twice on a +19 , first hit for about 100k and second hit for 200k, one shotting me and making the group fail the timer. Is this intentional? If yes, how can i avoid this?
