Bag ROI & when to upgrade?

I’m leveling up currently (have about 4 toons between 12-15) and I’m wondering what the conventional wisdom is on bags. I did some back of the napkin math on the early bags and iirc it’s 5s for a 6 sloters (.83 coper a slot), and for the 8 sloter it’s 25s (roughly 3.10s a slot).

Here’s what I don’t know:

  1. Is there a point where junk becomes substantially more lucrative, or is it something that increases gradually. Either way - when would you upgrade?
  2. Do you buy from vendors or on the AH? the AH seems like it could gouge easily.
  3. Is there a system you use to increase profitability? I basically take Skinning/Herbing and sell anything I can on the AH
  4. I’m going to guess that taking tailoring is only beneficial on the cloth wearers and shouldn’t be taken for bags alone.

Any help is appreciated.

I’m not sure about the calculations, but might you be able to ask a tailor in your guild to make you a larger bag? On my tailor, I’m usually happy to do so gratis for guildies.

Purchasing 6 slotters from vendors is ok, everything else is hyper overpriced. Even a level 1 toon should get 4 six slotters before anything else, even training.

Junk from animals, elementals, and weapons are lucrative, you can leave most other junk behind.

You will get bags far more cheaply on the AH than from vendors, but a guildie tailor is best.

get a guildie to make them with the tons of cloth you get.

I am sure there are some that would appreciate the skill ups.

all my alts now i just go ahead and send a set of rune cloth bags and 10 G to get them started.

no reason not to.

The best value for your money is to buy small silk packs off the AH. Silk cloth is so plentiful and cheap. All of my alts (banks) are loaded up with small silk packs. Upgrade when it is feasible. Like when you start getting a lot of Mageweave cloth in your 40’s.

People trying to min max their bags rofl.

You were new once too. Level 12-15 he probably doesn’t have much gold yet.

Yes, and if he’s totally new to to the server with no guildies or friends, he should get four small brown pouches from the vendors.

Then start making friends for everything after.

I try to get silk bags as soon as possible, skip mageweave then go straight to runecloth after lvl 40 mount.

Bags pay for themselves and by mid 20s you’ll start collecting greys that vendor relatively decent.

You’re right I was and I never needed someone to tell me about bags.

Very woke brave and slightly stunning ty for ur servix

Incorrect.

Tailoring is one of the three professions with a monetizable Cooldown.

Alchemy, Tailoring, Leatherworking.

If you want passive income you should make as many alts to 40 and take these professions for their cooldowns.

Any tailoring alt you should give cloth to for skill up. Might as well make bags.

Junk becomes very lucrative. You want to be picking up everything every mob drops and vending it.

Bags are always the first thing i upgrade. The money lost from dropping greys for a few levels would pay for the upgrades.

To be cost effective go for runecloth/journeymans bags.

I’ve always found bags much cheaper on the AH than via vendors. If they’re expensive one day, check back another time.
