Bad screen tearing even with vsync

K, there’s all that. Simple problem really. Playing Wrath classic I’m having bad screen tearing in the upper third of the screen. Disabling vsync makes it worse and moves it to the center of the screen. I’ve played with every setting and nothing affects it. Any ideas?

It means that VSYNC isn’t working. Since you’re on Windows 7 still, you’re stuck with some pretty dated Nvidia drivers(outside of a couple security patches, they haven’t touched them). With WoW, they use the modern engine for the classic clients. That modern engine interfaces with DirectX using certain techniques meant for modern Windows versions and modern graphics drivers.

Your best bet is to try playing the game in DX11 Legacy mode or use an operating system that isn’t 12 years old.

Nvidia released a new driver update 32 days ago so I think you’re wrong there. And you don’t need to preach me on not using Win 10, god himself couldn’t get me to use it. Good catch on DX12 though. I forgot Win 7 uses 11 and not 12.

Yes, like I said, they are purely security fixes to prevent malicious attacks that exploit the drivers. For Windows 7, the latest driver is 473.81, which is a branch from a version that came out over a year ago. We are on 517.48 now. A lot has changed with Windows and how the drivers interact with it now.

Well that’s what everyone said going from XP to 7, 7 to 10 and now 10 to 11. You’ll eventually reach the point where you won’t be able to play anything modern.

But I’m glad it worked for you. I still advise you to upgrade because more and more games will stop working, due to current drivers no longer being made for 7. WoW will eventually do the same and set a minimum driver/OS version.
