Bad FPS and stutter ever since Wrath. Losing hope

Ever since Wrath dropped, my frame rate (FPS) in 25-man raids has been terrible. My computer is old, but I never had a problem with this in Classic Vanilla or TBC. I’ll be at 60 fps for most of the raid, but as soon as we enter combat, especially during a boss encounter, everything drops to 25-30 fps. As the raid progresses, the 60 fps starts to stutter little by little.

Raiding is my favorite part of Classic, so this is really getting me down. What I’ve figured out so far:

  • Resetting my computer didn’t fix it.
  • Fresh install of WTF, addons and lua didn’t.
  • Switching Div12 to Div11 didn’t.
  • Reducing my addons to essentials-only didn’t.
  • Turning off all of my addons does help, but I still lose about 15 fps. I don’t think my custom built computer is as old as Wrath, so what is going on?
  • Reducing my graphic settings to level “1” still has performance issues in 25-man combat.

The only major discovery I’ve made is it seems to be certain animated UI addons that kill my fps, especially custom raid frames. Unfortunately I’m a healer, and I really need certain things from my raid frames that the default can’t provide. Unless you can point me to an addon that can better modify the default’s size, color and other appearances, it’s not an option to switch to Blizzard Raid Frames. If I was a dps, this would be a non-issue, but I’m a healer. I’ve been a healer since Gruul. We are very addon dependent.

Grid2, Vuhdo, and Healbot, I love them, but I can’t use them anymore because Wrath Classic did something to their performance. Are there any addon alternatives that are known for performance? Are there any fixes I might have missed?

Thanks for any help. It’s been 3 months, and I’m depressed about this and very close to quitting.

A suggested for old

Suggestions:

  • Try setting game to window mode.
  • Change your resolution to a smaller scale.
  • Change your quality of your sound to low minimal (makes no sense but it works for me)
  • Lastly try also try throttling your WoW.exe in Details Process List (to UAC Virtualization) or Set Priority to Realtime / High.

Thank you, I’ll try all of that stuff next week.

I have one night a week to see if I can fix this, which is raid day with my team. That was last night. I tried a computer reset and a completely new raid frames addon. Still problems, so last night was upsetting.

Welcome. And Good luck. You should try hearing my computer. It sound like it gonna take flight when I am in a raid/ or yet in dungeon alone. A helicopter about to take off before I even finish the raid/dungeon. Lol

I’m still getting an fps drop in Naxx with no addons enabled, but it’s about 15 fps. With raid frame addons enabled, I lose about 30 fps. So now I have to find a new raid grid to use because Grid2, Vuhdo and Healbot kill my fps.
