A buddy of mine was showing me the paladin talent trees yesterday on his Zandalari troll paladin, and while I was overall happy with the talents, themselves, I was not very happy with the backgrounds.
Holy had a human male paladin (this picture looked amazing!), protection had a picture of Lady Liadrin (awesome!) wearing the heroic Nefarian’s Lair armor (which is odd, because that tier looks nothing like what a paladin would wear) and the retribution tree had a female human wearing the normal Nefarian’s Lair armor (which, again, is odd because that’s the one set that almost NO PALADIN ever wears, and looks nothing like what paladin armor should look like).
So, an idea struck me:
It would be AMAZING if the art team could develop backgrounds for each class tree that:
a) portray a different NPC of the player’s chosen race for each specialization, and
b) wear armor that is iconic for that class.
Of the three current alpha paladin class tree backgrounds, I really only liked one–the holy one, because it showed a human wearing (I think) the Judgement set. But, I did not like that this showed up for a Horde character. And while both Liadrin and the female human looked cool, their armor is just… odd. Nobody wears that armor and it doesn’t look like paladin armor.
Imagine how cool it would be if on your draenei paladin, you could have 3 different pictures (one for each spec) of different draenei paladins. Perhaps the retribution tree could have a background of Maraad, the holy tree could have a picture of Yrel, and the protection tree could have a picture of some 3rd draenei NPC–some nameless vindicator that’s wearing stereotypical draenei paladin armor that’s usign a one-hander and a shield.
And they did this for every playable race.
That’s my thoughts on those backgrounds. Make them unique to each player’s race, and have the NPCs portrayed on those backgrounds wear armor that looks like armor that the class aught to wear.
