Back after a year, boosted priest

Hi. Just decided to try BfA, in legion i was playing a warlock, then a DK. There were things i didnt like about those classes (mobility, bad specs etc…) so now i decided to boost my priest to level 110 because i loved playing a disc and shadow priest in MoP. Disc is kinda fun and I’m seeing a bunch of posts how shadow is under performing. Should i continue putting in the work for this priest or go with the lock?

Do you want to heal? If yes, priest. If no… don’t look at meters because they change all of the time. Unless you’re a world first raider class and spec doesn’t matter nearly as much as learning to play well.

Shadow is under performing on damage in the slightest currently.

Shadow is just not as great for m+ utility wise, but the damage isn’t really so bad.

It can be at times because of our ramp up mechanic, but you can still pull competitive dps.

I personally think shadow is really fun and really rewarding to play well.

The problem with Shadow is that it’s absolutely the wrong design for the sole dps spec in a class that otherwise only has healing specs. When it’s good, it ends up being well-balanced for raids… which means it’s undertuned for 5-man and really undertuned for solo content. It speaks volumes that the majority of Priests you see outdoor questing are healing Priests.

I think shadow is in a good place abliet still a little behind in dmg, and lacks utility in m+. It does bring fortitude, dispels, vampiric embrace, shackle undead and some off healing, but it’s outshined by classes with battle Rez, bloodlust, and a short CD interrupt. People tend to not invite you to groups unless you have a high raider io and gear. If we had a shorter cool down on silence, or something else different to bring (they missed an opportunity to make VE shine) we would be in a good spot
