I just reached 70, have a lot of pre-raid BiS (clefthoof, helm of the claw, etc.) and am on the way to getting the rest (thoriumweave cloak, verdant gloves, etc.). I also just got my first heroic key, and have tanked almost all normal dungeons. I was curious about the following:
(1) Do I NEED Kara gear to even have a faint hope in heroics, or is pre-raid BiS sufficient? Pre-raid BiS with the right enchants gets me to about 13k hp (self-buffed) and 22 or 23k armor (and 28ish% dodge).
(2) Even if it isn’t ridiculous to step in a heroic, is it true I am capable of tanking only one mob at a time (and the rest must be CCed or kited) or I will be liquefied?
No. Some heroics are harder than others so certainly getting some gear on the easier heroics/Kara and then moving up will make it easier.
No with a caveat that some mob packs and some mobs will absolutely destroy you depending on the instance again. Yes you do want CC because you don’t want every mob on you but there are plenty of instances you can tank 2/3 mobs.
You should be able to tank heroics in dungeon blues, if your group behaves well enough. The gear you have is solid. As others have said, bring plenty of CC. Don’t rush anything, either.
Thanks all! This makes me feel a bit better, I will get my pre raid bis and give it a go. Someone said that buying cloth shadow resist greens allows you to cheese tank heroic pandemonius, maybe I will try that first.
Not must but encouraged, trash packs in Heroics can hit HARD, you’ll learn which packs you want to minimize incoming damage and which packs you can take 2-3 mobs through experience.
For example even with some Kara gear the Ravaners in Ramparts still hit for 3500, and they have a Kidney Shot.
Ramparts is pretty easy as long as you’re mindful of patrols. I prefer to CC the armored guys and deal with whatever is left.
Sethekk Halls isn’t too bad with 1 or 2 CC classes for trash and use good target selection. The first boss is the only really annoying part if people are in DPS mode and keep pushing the boss.
Slave Pens is easy, but careful face tanking the lobsters.
Old Hillsbrad is also relatively easy and you get a free backup tank by just letting Thrall engage first and peeling them off. The dragonkin before Epoch Hunter are much easier if you have a 2nd druid since they engage pretty quickly, I wouldn’t recommend trying to CC them as the tank.
Stick to slave pens, steamvault, ramparts, botanical, and mechanar, and you’ll be fine. Those are really easy, and you can make them even easier by bringing a comp with heavy CC.
Just stay far away from the other places, especially shattered halls, old hillsbrad, and blood furnace
