Azshara and the Twilight's Hammer

Did anyone notice that both plot threads are still active despite the Old Gods of Azeroth being killed off as of Visions of N’Zoth?

Azshara is seeking a true throne of power and since she has a Undersea aesthetic she will probably be the Big Bad of a Water/Sea-based Expansion(preferably having Nazjatar as an outright Continent featuring parts of the City not seen in the Nazjatar Zone).

The Twilight’s Hammer which got their edict to cause the Hour of Twilight from the Void Lords themselves are still active as is the Forgotten One Gor’ma in Ny’alotha despite the Old God he has a portal to(N’Zoth) being Reoriginated by the Forge of Origination and Heart of Azeroth.

The Flesh Elemental Il’gynoth made from the flesh of Gor’ma is dead diminishing Gor’ma’s ability to merge Ny’alotha with reality yet it is still possible for Gor’ma to pull it off what with having all the time in the world.

The gift of N’Zoth remaining suggests No Ontological Inertia isn’t in effect with N’Zoth’s creations so Gor’ma should still be alive in Ny’alotha working to merge it with reality causing the Ny’alotha Expansion that we are demanding!

Depends of Xalatath ties into this. If his essence is trapped in the Knife, N’Zoth might be a bit less dead than the other Old Gods. Xalatath (the original) said before that usually even defeat ended up turning out in N’zoth’s favor.

The Twilight’s Hammer is just a doomsday cult. Before they worshipped the Old Gods they worshipped the Legion. So long as there is a chance to bring about Armageddon the Twilight’s Hammer will have their hat in the ring.

As for the other dangling plot threads, I expect them to be resolved in future dungeons rather than future expansions.

Are their many twilights hammer cultists left after cata?

They presumably don’t have the sort of numbers necessary to field huge armies any more (until Blizz spontaneously decides they do again), but some Artifact Weapon quests in Legion as well as their continued activities in Silithus, Darkshore and Island Expedition content during BfA suggests they’re probably back to Vanilla- or WotLK-era levels, plotting behind the scenes while still engaging in localized attempts to awaken or claim various Old God-related minions and artifacts.

I.e. they’re not all over the place, but they’re seemingly a lot more intact than other cults like the Shadow Council or Cult of the Damned.

Warcraft Chronicle Vol. 2 states that the Twilight’s Hammer came to being due to Pale Orcs being in direct contact with the Void Lords through K’ure. Cho’gall decided to take advantage of their goal by promising the bringing about the Hour of Twilight as long as they create the Twilight’s Hammer Clan.

Once Cho’gall discovered the Old Gods existed he himself began to believe in the Twilight’s Hammer belief system and came to the conclusion that helping the Legion would aid in bringing about the Void Lords’ Hour of Twilight faster!

He is the reason the Old Gods reached into the Well of Eternity of the past in order to summon the Legion! The Old Gods didn’t consider that someone stronger than the guy who killed Y’Shaarj had come especially since Sargeras’s actions were most likely outside their vision(not surprising since the assassin that attempted to kill Turalyon was outside the Void’s visions but not the Light’s).

Eh, I thought we were discounting Chronicles as just a ‘version’ of canon at this point, since Blizz has already contradicted the supposed ‘holy writ’.

Regardless, my point stands that the Twilight’s Hammer is just a doomsday cult. As long as there is someone looking for some doom to be had, they won’t be going anywhere.

Agreed. Of course the other Void Cults like N’Zoth’s Cult of the Void will be crumbling now that N’Zoth is dead since unlike the Twilight’s Hammer they were banking entirely on N’Zoth winning!

Ironically the Cult of the Void uses Twilight Magic while the Twilight’s Hammer uses Void Magic!

They’re are so many different types of wow magic what is the difference between void magic and twilight magic???

Not much difference. Void is more Black-Purple while Twilight which is used by Voidform and Void Elves is Blue-Purple.

Blizzard has specifically called Twilight Magic a type of Void Magic so it’s in the same boat as the Grey Sha Magic used by the Sha and the Orange Delirium Magic seen in N’Zoth’s fight where it’s used to put us to sleep pulling us into N’Zoth’s mind scape.

If Y’shaarj has told us anything, even in death the Old gods can still mess around with us. Even if their shadows are independent of the original being.

The Twilight Hammer actually has a fairly logical way of fielding new armies, they basically recruit from the playable faction and play on our fears. Hence why Deathwing didnt destroy Stormwind, he wanted followers from the city to join his cause.

In N’Zoth’s case his entire body is being reoriginated safely away from Azeroth in Ny’alotha so his Shadows will be formed from his base Void elements(Blood, Delirium, Shadow and Twilight) and wandering through Ny’alotha.

N’Zoth’s Blood will become Blood Slimes with Eyes, his Delirium Magic will become Orange Delirium Elementals(never before seen), his Shadow Magic will become Oblivion Elementals and his Twilight Magic will become Void Elementals.

The Twilight’s Hammer will take good advantage of the various Elementals and try to use them alongside the Forgotten Ones to merge Ny’alotha with reality.

It would be funny if the Black Empire Expansion was without living Old Gods influencing it but instead having the Twilight’s Hammer attempt various plans to cause the Hour of Twilight including attempts to get a Naaru corrupted so that they can contact the Void Lords!

Well sure, they can become that large again, but frankly the timing probably isn’t right for it. The world only recently emerged victorious from the largest demonic invasion in the history of Azeroth; the masses likely aren’t as rife with fatalism and despair as they were when the world seemed to be literally falling apart at the seams with no end in sight during the Cataclysm.

Cults like the Twilight’s Hammer and Cult of the Damned tend to swell in times of catastrophic uncertainty and terror. The Scourge recruited its cultists when the Alliance was shedding member states, the Horde was rising again and their kings seemed remote, unwilling or unable to do anything about it. The Twilight’s Hammer grew into an army when Deathwing was scorching the land, the very earth itself heaved and the elements ran amok.

Theoretically the upcoming return of the Scourge as it runs amok might contribute to either of these cults gaining members in droves, but then again, the Scourge is a known threat that’s been defeated before, so its assault might have the opposite effect and lead the citizenry of the Alliance and Horde respectively to band together more closely rather than despair and look elsewhere for reason and purpose.

With the helm of domination destroyed and their technically being no lich king won’t the scourge be attacking everyone

Yes that’s gonna happen in the pre-xpac-patch, same as with legion and cata and etc in equivalent ways

Yes, that will be the opening for Shadowlands. Basically Bolvar and his boys barely able to stem the tide.
